Quality oil for Subaru Ascent FA2.4F

I'll have to give Restore a shot and see what happens. I like your analogy for going from sledge hammers to framing hammers! haha

Is it safe to push my car at night?

You'll be just fine. Think about how many cars are floored in cold weather climates that probably won't even reach that oil temperature in 30 min, and they don't have any issues. I know in IA when we get cold snaps where our high temp is still below 0F for a week or more I'm sure my oil probably...

    Grilling Brats

I like all types! But my favorite are skinless brats! A few local places make their own in may varieties of seasonings/flavors and original of course. I like that there is a nice crust on them and they don't POP when you bite in and make a mess! But it is hard to beat a good beer brat. I must...

The truth about CVT's (at least Subaru's) and cats

I don't mind CVT's at all, except Nissan....those ones just don't seem to be right. Our Subaru Ascent works great. There are quite a few people who tow with them and haven't reported issues either. The only annoying thing I find with our Ascent and all manufactures is the simulated shifts. I...

    BFG AT KO2

Ya, I'm on close to year 5 on my Duratracs. I have noticed they are loosing their "softness" in colder temps. But they are also about 75% worn, which is pretty close to bald for most AT tires in my eyes. So before winter I'll probably be getting a new set of tires. This time I'm looking at Kenda...

    BFG AT KO2

Boy, I must be one of those rare breeds that don't care for the K02 one bit. I have driven many vehicles (compact suvs to 1 ton trucks) and K02's ranging from brand new to almost bald. My experience on customer vehicles with K02's is that when brand new, they are all around pretty good. But...

The energy advocacy paradox/fear of adoption

I think EV's are good for some. But not the majority. Plug-in Hybrids make a lot more sense for the masses. I certainly can't fathom spending the kind of money on many of the EV's out there currently that I would actually want to drive. I'd take a 1st gen Prius over a Leaf any day!!! It's really...

    OMG, wiper prices

Thats great to hear that others are seeing the same prices. I just tend to replace them once a year in the spring on our cars since they are so cheap for the Motorcraft ones. I priced out the Toyota ones since they lasted so long on a previous vehicle, but at that time they were $30 something...

    OMG, wiper prices

Check your local Ford dealer. I get Ford unibeam blades for all of our cars from the dealer. They range from $14-$18ea where I'm at. Quality and longevity have been on par with all the other big name unibeam blades I've used. Except Toyota, those things lasted 4+ years and worked amazing well!

    2019 Ascent towing pop-up with 5w20

Those are good points. 1. The 3000 mile severe service interval should be the standard that everyone should follow. - I'll have to look into this, is that even on "regular driving habits" or is this for people that tend to drive harder? 2. This engine has issues with fuel dilution and oil...

Peace of mind from driving a beater?

Yup! Love my little beater! Originally got my 01 Outback with a leaking water pump for $700 that I planned on doing a Gambler 500 with. But didn't get the parts in time to do it. After fixing it I fell in love with it and found it to be in better overall condition than I thought. Then I started...

    2019 Ascent towing pop-up with 5w20

The CVT was an issue on the 19's from what I've seen. There are quite a few people on Ascent pages towing larger campers that have 50k miles with no issues. As far as oil weight....I've never been a fan of altering from whats recommended by the manufacture on a stock engine. Now if it was an...

    Hand help tuners

I'm going to run the 87+ Stage 1 tune since we don't really have 93 in my area and I'm not sure how the CVT will do in the long term. Granted we don't tow or haul anything excessively heavy inside and many tow thousands of miles with a 4500lb flat nose campers with their Ascent. So I feel like...

    Hand help tuners

I'm excited to get it for our 21 Ascent. Not expecting (or wanting) it to become an STI or something it isn't. But I would like to have a more linear throttle response and of course more power is always welcome! One thing I wish the COBB AP was able to do is make the CVT operate like it's...

    underhood worklight

Best headlamp I have used has to be the Milwuakee Rechargable. The trueview light color makes wire colors accurate and battery life on medium flood is 8hrs+ on my 4 yr old headlamp. Medium is more than bright enough for any task within arms reach. For under hood lighting I have to say this...

    Hand help tuners

Thats hardly what I would call a "handheld" tuner. Big difference between canned tunes sent from bullydog, diablo, banks, etc. Essentially what he did is a mail in tune. Which is as close to a custom street tune as you can get. Many people on many vehicles do this with HPTuners where you can...

    Actual MPG Loss Roof Box

On my little 01 outback with a somewhat tired engine I noticed my interstate MPG (70-75mph) dropped about 4-5mpg unloaded. I know it's older and not in tip top shape (piston slap) but I even noticed the drag difference in drag when accelerating to interstate speeds.

Quality oil for Subaru Ascent FA2.4F

I agree that a dyno does not show long term wear or daily driven patterns. But it is still data to build off of. You are absolutely right, most people only own a vehicle for 2-3 years so this isn't even relevant to some. But this vehicle and my Tacoma are likely to stay with us for at least 10...

LED H4 bulbs are close to reaching focus-parity with halogen in reflector headlights.

I know that a TacomaWorld Thread has already been posted but these are much more recently updated and show some interesting info. Especially in the Tacoma OEM H11 projector housing which is much more forgiving than a reflector. The biggest thing to note is that while an LED may perform mostly...

Oil for my 1965 F100 240 with Turbo

My guess is that you're getting blow by and its dumping it straight on the ground when you're getting into boost. My in-laws chevy 265 has the breather on the valve cover and a vent tube coming coming off the lower part of the block and straight to the ground. That's my guess, but I don't know...
