12,335 miles between synthetic oil changes! Never again!

I dug up this old video of mine where I'm changing the oil and filter on a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S sedan. If you watch until the end, you'll see the mileage since the last oil change which is 12,335 miles. I only did this once, and you can see how dark the old oil was! I normally change...

    Replace rotors and leave pads?

$50-$100 per set is nothing compared to the years of normal use and peace of mind when new rotors and new pads wear together. Besides, you don't want the chinese knock-off pads anyway. Get the good stuff because braking is more important than accelerating.

    Replace rotors and leave pads?

Replace both. It's not worth the money and time to because brake pads are cheap. Let the new ones wear together evenly.

    Nissan CVT fluids

Here's the CVT "loosen the pan and re-fill" method on a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S with CVT. This car is past 212k miles on the same transmission. I never changed the transmission filter or changed the pan gasket. I switched to Valvoline CVT fluid, their website PI Sheet says it's NS-1/2/3...

    Honda ATF change questions

Just drain and fill the ATF 3x in a week of normal driving. No need for a new filter, just clean off the drain bolt. Stick in the Honda DW-1 compatible synthetic ATF of your choice. I'm using Valvoline MaxLife and O'Reilly's Multi-Vehicle.

    Honda/Multi-Vehicle ATF Comparison Chart

Valvoline products seem to be very good. They have a reputation to protect when it comes to selling fluids to millions and millions of buyers around the world.

    Honda/Multi-Vehicle ATF Comparison Chart

You are right, but the car is a known clunker due to the unreliable CVT so I spend as little on it as possible! I do routine maintenance and I send it to the stealership when something requires a lift and specialty tools. My wife is happy that a 2008 Nissan with CVT lasted so long because she...

Chines made air filters. Am I overthinking?

Same here. I'm a DIY'er and chinese products always disappointed me. American made products aren't more expensive in the long run anyway since you worry less and replace less often. Otherwise, I buy from America's allies. MicroGard 10339 is Made in S Korea.

    Any Horror Multi-Vehicle ATF Stories?

Exactly, new compatible fluid beats old fluid. AT's are bolted to the engine, they run HOT which means the fluid will go bad. I did a drain and fill with Valvoline MaxLife ATF on a ZF9 equipped 2017 Honda Pilot Elite because the CarFax didn't mention a transmission fluid change from the previous...

    Bad Experiences with Maxlife ATF?

You don't need Honda brand fluid at all. I used Valvoline MaxLife and O'Reilly Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF on previous Hondas. No problems whatsoever. I've used VML as Power Steering Fluid when Dexron compatible was listed. I've even used VML in a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite with the ZF9...

Help me determine if my CVT fluid has been changed

That's the secret to keeping Nissan CVT's going. Just drain and fill. I just ignore the manual which had no information on intervals and capacities! I switched to Valvoline CVT fluid in order to be change more often every 3 yrs or 30k miles. This one is past 212k miles this year.

Worth changing transmission fluid on 2012 Honda Accord with 140,000 miles when it has never been done before?

I agree, keeping the old fluid in there is insane. There is no such thing as "lifetime fluids" folks. Nissan owners learned this the hard way. I'm a fan of drain and fill because it's cheap and easy to do. My oldest Honda at the moment has 170K miles and I just drain and fill with Valvoline...

    Honda/Multi-Vehicle ATF Comparison Chart

I've got a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S that's over 212k miles using Valvoline CVT fluid. My secret is to ignore the owner's manual. I drain and fill every 3 years by loosening the transmission pan, there is no bottom drain bolt. I fill it via the dipstick tube to the low mark when Cold. The...

    Honda Ridgeline ZF 9 Speed

Update, the wife has driven the SUV in Eco mode, Normal mode, in the summer heat (mid-90's), in the city, and on the highway. No difference in shifting or MPG. I'm not surprised, Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic ATF seems to be the solution to Honda's ZF-1/DW-1 ATF woes for years. She's past 55k...

ZF 8 Multi Vehicle ATF Experiences

I checked Valvoline's website and MaxLife Synthetic is also Honda ATF Type 3.1 compatible. I used it for a drain and fill in a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite with a ZF 9-speed pushbutton / paddle transmission. It also lists ZF's 8 and 9 speeds in the PI Sheet.
