What Spray Product for Motor Surface Corrosion?

aluminum oxide, super hard used in the coating of wood flooring finish to make it more durable. A die grinder or muratic acid will take it off if you really want to. ;-)

    An EV and a Slurpee

Why the need to make it look like a gas pump? Actually it is a static electricity collector powered from the wind blowing made by the gas powered cars whooshing by. And the little grid thing on front leaches power from nearby devices that are automatically opted in by the Amazon sidewalk sharing...

    New renewable fuel

Problem is you need a lot of other machines (Infrastructure) to store it on a large scale. The cost stack up to do so is ridiculous and a small leak can have explosive consequences. A guy at work once was ready to buy an electrolysis can for his car. the idea was that you split the H2O and feed...

When they cut someone's brake line in the movies.

It doesent make sense to me why OEM brakes wouldn't be 2 separate redundant systems. My experience though was that the old car did have rear when the front went and the newer car lost all brakes from a line leak no matter the reason.

    Engine mount

Get someone you really trust with emergency/brakes on to lightly operate fwd and reverse while you're watching under the hood. You'll see those elatomeric mounts move around as they should and then judge weather they move more than they're supposed to. Back in the day with the big V8's it was...

When they cut someone's brake line in the movies.

the trick is the "Cut" needs to be a pinhole. Then the brakes wont fail till you're on a cliff near the ocean. :) My 68 impala lost front brakes due to leak the rears still worked ...barely. Today methinks they will all fail if a leak occurs. Another one that kills me is the Hollywood Hotwire...

    Toyota 2GR-FE tapping valve train

Not a consensus AFAIK but M1 15-50 has quieted clackety engines for me in the past. :-)

Salvaged engine what can i do with it?

Yes the dual mac10 Go-Karts burned nitro. Watched them race at Pontiac Silverdome in the 70's ,,,can still smell them today :-)

Small rant on ignorant drivers and auto manufacturers.

Not to worry it wont be too much longer before driverless is mandated. Then you wont need wipers, headlights or even windows on the family car if you even own one. Mom can be loaded on antidepressants and vodka, Dad can get busy with his new GF or little johnny can get whooped up on mtn dew and...

Why I will always change my own oil!!!!

One time is all it took... i destroyed a filter trying to get it off the engine. Luckily once it was destroyed i could get to the bolts holding the filter mount to the engine. Removed that and put it in a vice AND USED A CHISEL TO REMOVE THE LAST OF THE FILTER!

Ran through tires awfully fast - brand/model suggestion?

+1 michelin Defenders and run the pressure up a bit 38-40 psi. Should go a long way and work well in rain and snow. Also wouldnt hurt to get next size larger that fits. Larger tires ride better and carry more load.

    Too lean idle

+1 ...my 02 F150 it was common for the EGR to get coked up and sticky. You could remove a cover and clean the passages using a coat hanger good as new.

    Too lean idle

it is possible you're getting a lot of blowby when engine gets hot and it is pushing hot oily mess into the intake air. Try venting PCV to air and cap that intake connection see if it makes a difference.

Why are horse trailers typically 24" less wide than most enclosed trailers?

...guess is that you want the horse generally alinged fore/aft. if allowed to stand perpendicular then they may fall over when you hit brakes or throttle.

Trailering the old Chevy... possibly through the rain?

1/2 Ton trucks and cooling sytem performance

If the forum consensus is that elevated temps are normal for that configuration id say nothing wrong. We do know that the engineers designed more recent vehicles to run at much higher temps than they used to. I would deferr to more stout oil if it was mine. with that sort of heat a 20w would be...

1/2 Ton trucks and cooling sytem performance

2018 6.2 Silverado here. changed the coolant thermostat from the stock 206 to 196 crammo t-stat. Also bypassed the 186 degree trans t-stat and dropped 35 degrees from fluid temp there. Pulled a 12000 lb toy hauler cross country 5k miles with no sweat. The GM ECU has the fans idle at anything...

Can thicker oil cause more wear?

I wont disagree that it is possible to get to 200k using 0w-20 but IMO a lot less likely. For the minute % difference in mpg 0-20 promises I will still lean toward a lower chance of failure in the long run.

    Extended Drain Opinion

One of my early technical jobs was component repair of electronic tolerance/guageing fixtures used in the Chrysler plants in Detroit. I think when we say an engine is tight today it refers to the design tolerances being met on all the components within a completed engine. The statistical...
