Why Do Knowledgeable Folks on Here use 20 wt Oil

FWIIW - My family ran a 2010 Prius for 210K miles on 10K OCIs at the dealership. It may be a noble thing to run one or two 5K OCIs while breaking in the engine, but your Toyota is likely to take the recommended 10K OCI in stride. Get the UOAs as you intend to rather than taking any post here...

Why Do Knowledgeable Folks on Here use 20 wt Oil

Based upon the multiple UOAs I have for this vehicle using both 0w-20 and 5w-30 I believe that it is.

Why Do Knowledgeable Folks on Here use 20 wt Oil

I have a 2016 Honda Accord with the 2.4 liter four that is spec'd for 0w-20 but sees only 5w or 0w-30. I also have a 2017 Toyota Prius V spec'd for 0w-20 where I am considering using 0w-16. So what does that make me? Indecisive? Insightful? Maybe a bit cerebral? What it doesn't make me is a...

What are you using on OPE?

My John Deere D140 lawn tractor gets 15w-40 Rotella T6 and a Fram Tough Guard 3614. It averages 30 hours per year so I change the oil annually but the filters go for two seasons.

Post your latest oil top off

I consider myself lucky that none of the four vehicles in our stable require any top up oil. My last vehicle that did was a 2001 Volvo V70XC running on the plain vanilla 10w-30 M1. I experimented with 10w-30 M1 High Mileage and 0w-40 M1 FS and these seemed to cure the problem. That engine had...

Why Do Knowledgeable Folks on Here use 20 wt Oil

Having run 210K miles on a 2010 Prius with 0w-20 at 10 K OCIs I see no reason to be concerned. Another Prius in our stable has over 50K on 0w-20 with 10K OCIs. The latest Prius in the stable calls for 0w-16. I find myself wanting to go thinner on the latter two vehicles based upon what they...

    0W-08 Engine oil

I've been thinking about using 0w-16 HPL Premium Plus in our 2017 Prius V that is basically a grocery getter. Occasionally it gets a long highway trip but never in 90+ ambient weather.

OCI for older cars with low annual mileage?

Do you drive each vehicle 5K per year or is that 5K total shared between the two? Is your accumulated mileage low because the vehicles sit idle a lot? When you do drive are the trips short or long? Lots of short trips where the oil doesn't warm up is considered to be a form of severe service...

    2024 Rav4... Idemitsu IFG7 0W-16 VS. Pennzoil Platinum 0W-16

What you are doing is a noble but premature experiment. This engine is still breaking in and Blackstone said as much. Run the Ravenol 6k as planned. Get a UOA if you care to. It is unlikely that anything you see in those three UOAs will be relevant over the long term. Repeat your experiment...

Valvoline 0w-20 not appropriate for my Cmax?

My 2017 C-Max Energi has been running on 0w-20 M1 EP for nearly 15,000 miles on this OCI. When it gets warm enough outside to think about an oil change it will be getting 0w-20 HPL Premium Plus. It seems to me that Valvoline is just now jumping on the hybrid oil bandwagon and hasn't fully...

    Post your latest oil change

Presently I have HPL 0w-30 Premium Plus in a 2016 Honda Accord with the 2.4 liter Earth Dreams engine. It calls for 0w-20 but it's a fuel diluter That's the only vehicle on the driveway where I've gone over to the thicker side. There are two Toyotas in the driveway that might just see thinner...

    Post your latest oil change

So what was your motivation for choosing this oil? Wouldn't a 0w-20 have served you better or are you planning to run the oil so LONG that you are worried about the VIIs shearing down? Just curious...

    Is $2195 a decent price for a '20 John Deere S240?

AFIK the John Deere 42-inch decks have only two anti-scalp wheels vs. four on the 48-inch decks. That may be an issue for your application.

HPL 0W30 Premium Plus UOA 6,013 miles 2022 Camry 2.5

Okay - but I have been to Australia and can assure you that the climate there is different than that where you live. I wouldn't advise using xw-30 oil for your application. This is just my two cents on the matter. In the interests of full disclosure I do use 0w-30 in a 0w-20 spec'd vehicle...

HPL 0W30 Premium Plus UOA 6,013 miles 2022 Camry 2.5

The difference between 0w-8 and 0w-20 is pretty significant and your car calls for 0w-8. That being said I doubt that using 0w-20 will do any harm.

HPL 0W30 Premium Plus UOA 6,013 miles 2022 Camry 2.5

Why the jump from 0w-8 to 0w-20? Wouldn't a bump to 0w-16 have made more sense? I've not spent a lot of time in eastern Washington but the last time I visited the ambient temperature topped 100F. I am just curious to know if you drive the car hard in really how weather or what other...

    TGMO 0w-20, 4k mi; 2024 Tacoma

Interesting and thanks for posting. Someone commented on the Moly content in a recent TGMO UOA that I had posted. Maybe they are lowering the Moly content? Many more UOAs will be required to draw any meaningful conclusions.

Which New Walk Behind Mower You Would Buy Today?

I will add a vote in the electric column for Ego or Toro. A neighbor bought an Ego mower last year and it jus mazing how quiet it is. I bought an Ego string trimmer two years ago and would never go back to a 2-cycle unit for homeowner use. An important consideration here is what other battery...

Anyone Using HPL ATF Green in a Mercon LV Application?

AFIK the change interval for my C-Max Energi is 150k miles. I am going to have it changed at 75k miles with Mercon LV. I think it highly unlikely that the car will still be with me after another 150k at the rate I accrue miles.

Anyone Using HPL Green in a Toyota WS Application?

My use case is a 2017 Prius V with a little over 50k miles. It has an e-CVT transaxle that apparently isn't too demanding on the ATF fluid. At this point I am leaning towards Idemitsu TLS-LV because it is a direct replacement and it has a lower viscosity than HPL Green. As much as I may like...
