    What's everyone's favorite 0w-20 these days?

HPL Premium Plus. The cold temperature properties are amazing even if I will never need them. My daily driver is a PHEV that will start the ICE if I get too aggressive with the accelerator pedal. Having an oil that can get places fast is important when you are going to near max power within...

    5w40 instead of 10w30/

Yes, but 15w-40 RT6 might be a better choice where you live. It's what I run in my rider up here in Pennsylvania. A 15w-40 oil is required to have a higher HTHS viscosity than a 5w-40. Higher HTHS is what you want in OPE running in warm temperatures.

    John Deere Tractor opinions

These larger single cylinder Briggs motors are notorious for head gasket failures. IIRC my MIL paid over $500 to correct such an issue on a mower that was only ten years old. May I suggest that you consider the smallest / least expensive John Deere featuring a V-Twin engine? The Husqvarna...

25hp Briggs PXi break in procedure?

I typically change out the factory oil on OPE between 5 - 8 hours. Depending upon the application I prefer either 10w-30 or 15w-40 synthetics. For your application I would use a 15w-40 synthetic since you are unlikely to start or run the machine below 50F but might run it above 90F if you have...

Excess Solar Production - Considering an EV

I have 35 x 400 watts of panels for 14 kW in total. Last month produced about 1200 kWh vs consumption of 913 kWh. That consumption included enough to power my PHEV an average of 15 miles per day. Since you are new to this I will warn you not to make any decisions based upon a single month in...

Played an unfortunate April Fool’s joke on my mower

So get a solar panel and call it a day. My folks have been maintaining their lawn tractor battery out in the stable for decades using just a 20 watt solar panel. I run a significantly more complex system in my garden shed consisting of a 90 watt panel, MPPT charger controller, 1 kWh LiFePO4...

    Post your last tire/wheel purchase

17 x 7 for both AFIK. Note that the new wheels feature both 5 x 100 and 5 x 114 bolt circles. These wheels should fit anything in my stable.

    Post your last tire/wheel purchase

2023 Toyota Prius with 17-inch factory wheels. Tirerack.com had only three choices available in the stock 195/60/17 size. One of those is the Michelin X-Ice that just got swapped out. The new tires are Vredestein Quatrac Pro+ in size 215/55/17. There is a meaningless difference in the...

Any experiences using Shell free charging?

I have been using the former Volta system chargers for two years now. In spite of any instructions they post there is no App needed; you just plug in and charge. Unfortunately the Shell chargers nearest to me have just been equipped with credit card readers so you might want to grab a few...

HPL Premium Plus - Reasonable OCI?

As it is with so many questions it all boils down to the use case. Here are three from my stable that may shed some light on the matter. 2016 Honda Accord with 2.4 liter Earth Dreams engine. This engine is a known fuel diluter and it is driven a little over a mile each way to work and back...

    HPL PPPCMO 0w-16 Cold Crank?

Okay - so the 0w-12 has the lowest MRV viscosity, the lowest viscosity index, but the highest pour point. Could anyone explain how this is possible?

    Post your latest oil change

2017 Toyota Prius V. 51,391 miles on the vehicle. Out: 4 quarts dealership 0w-20 plus 1/2 quart HPL EC30 6254 miles on the oil and 946 miles on the EC30. In: 4-1/2 quarts 0w-20 HPL Premium Plus The plan was to change the filter but the filter housing appears to have been overtightened...

Toyota Hybrid 2.5l oil options? Anything new?

And why would that be? Are you suggesting that a Toyota cannot run on the same oil in Japan and Pennsylvania? I understand the question if posed as Japan vs Texas. That wasn't my use case.

Toyota Hybrid 2.5l oil options? Anything new?

My plan for tomorrow is to change the oil on our 2017 Prius V. This is technically a fourth generation Prius. Our car calls for 0w-20 but Toyota changed that to 0W-16 towards the end of fourth generation production. This begins the dilemma. Compounding that I have both 0W-20 and 0W-16...

Cleaned up my old John Deere LA110

John Deere D140 lawn tractor. 306 hours and ten seasons on the machine. Thirty two hours on the oil and filter. Out: 2 Quarts 15w-40 Rotella T6 In: same I pulled the oil from topside using a Harbor Freight fluid extractor. This was the quickest and easiest oil change yet on this machine...

Is it safe to use premium fuel in a carburated Honda EM7000is generator?

Why not just put it in your car or truck? It won't hurt your OPE, but there is a more obvious solution.
