Can't say I have ever noticed any halaogen bulb degradation unless moisture got inside a sealed one. Unless that happens or your upgrading you change them when they burn out.

I always use a gasket but you'll find a lot who use the rtv too.

I haven't noticed any lighting issues with a standard halogen replacement on the wifes 2000. I adjusted the lights up slightly and she runs her driving lights that came on the van on low beam. Doesn't all the bumpers have the holes for the factory driving lights ? If so add them ?

Oil leak likely causing your smell. Look around under your hood and especially under the vehicle. You'll likely find a wet spot.

I can't say anything about the Ultras as I have never used them. The original Silverstar sealed beam types is what I have experience with and they ARE much brighter and whiter than a regular sealed beam halogen. Mine have been on both cars for TWO PLUS YEARS.

Guys I got a question for you. I have changed the wife's tranny fluid multiple times in her Dodge Caravan which had RTV from the factory. I use the rubber gasket that comes with the kit and be sure to just torque enough to slightly squeeze out the rubber gasket. It seems to seep more each time...
