What are you working on today?

Tested my brothers 2014 Chrysler Town & Country Pentastar with my block testing fluid to confirm both our suspicions. The blue fluid went straw colored yellow. 🫤 Being that it runs and idles smoothly but gets very hot, I’ve condemned the head gasket(s). Called and discussed the issue with...

What are you working on today?

Monday I replaced the coils and plugs on the Mercury Grand Marquis. My niece took it to Rochester a couple of weeks back and I went along to replace the oil pan on my Grand Caravan that my brother was using, but developed a leak. I didn’t post about that because I forgot about it and it went...

Anyone know what this beige connector is called?

I second the FAKRA answer. I have upgraded a few Chrysler vehicles and they have these connections for GPS and satellite radio.

    Top Tier Stations Detergent Levels

Most stations in my neck of northern Minnesota are Top Tier so I tend to use it all the time. Except I checked and the big Holiday Station Store is no longer Top Tier (They used to have the stickers all over the pumps). My guess is Holiday (now Circle K) opted to not pay to be on the list. I...

    New Fuel Filter Suspicions

I’d send it back for exchange. The internal rattling and diesel smell suggest a used item. Not one I’d place on my car. I’ve bought many filters and none came to me with fuel or other chemical smells beyond the material used in it’s construction.

What are you working on today?

Replaced the lower oil pan on the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. Common job with these as here in the salty state of MN these rust out enough to need regular replacement. Got new pan bolts and a pan (NOT Mopar, as it’s just a pan to hold oil after all), and pried to old rusty but not leaking (yet)...

What are you working on today?

Did some maintenance and repair work on my niece’s 2008 Chrysler Town & Country with the 3.8 V6. Pulled off the intake plenum to aid in easier removal of the valve cover gaskets. The engine has oil all over from leaky gaskets and I got a set of Fel-Pro gaskets for the valve covers and the...

What are you working on today?

All of that was replaced within 20k miles. I am leaning toward my plan to replace with a reconditioned used engine.

What are you working on today?

I did of course, as well as use my fill funnel, designed to be the high point in the cooling system. The steamy tailpipe is my indicator of coolant being ingested.

What are you working on today?

Did a thermostat replacement and coolant fill on my brother’s wife’s Town and Country. I ran it up to temp using my coolant funnel from NAPA, and I kept noticing the wisps of steam from the tailpipe. 🤨 Checked temps on the dashboard and via my scan tool. At idle, in 38*F outside temperatures...

Sparky the Mastodon in Ketchikan, Alaska

Almost all NGKs… no one had any Champion plugs in there? 😜

What are you working on today?

NOT my Grand Caravan, but my brother’s wife’s Town & Country… Picking up OE parts today since I suspect the sensors are faulty, or sludged, or just out of whack. 😎. The gaskets and o-ring were none too fresh either. Job was done two years back by a small shop. I’ve gotten the removal of the...

Beater: Should I buy this car?

My niece lists parts for me on Facebook, and it never fails: someone on there will see the listing and offer half of your asking price. When rejected, they inevitably say “It’s not worth that, and you’ll never sell it”. Each time they sold for what I wanted. 😜 I still recall the guy who...

What are you working on today?

Drove across the state on Saturday in the recently refurbished Grand Caravan. On my way to give my estimation of my brother’s Chrysler Town & Country. My Dodge went the 300+ miles flawlessly. As it should. 😁 On the way I noticed a nice, shiny, recently detailed Honda Odyssey minivan on the...

    Bank Fraud

Yes, a couple of years back I got a nice little sum from them. Several hundred dollars for a series of car loans and a brief mortgage that they sold after a few months. I thought they had paid everyone by now.

What are you working on today?

Replaced the right rear wheel bearing on the Grand Caravan. I thought possibly the left side bearing I installed last week was faulty. I replaced the right side after inspection due to grinding noise and rust galore. I used my Lisle hub remover to make quick work of it. And it was the...

What are you working on today?

Swapped out the 17 year old, 200k mile MAF sensor on the Grand Marquis. I’d been getting odd behavior from the engine occasionally, hesitation and the like. Did a search on the Panther platform forums and found suggestions to replace it. Buying it local isn’t cheap, so I opted for RockAuto...

What are you working on today?

Scheduled a windshield installation on the Grand Caravan for Friday morning. Went to town to pick up some supplies and grabbed new wiper blades for the Grand Caravan, some coolant and European car motor oil. Walmart had a clearance on Pennzoil Euro oil - $18.50 for a 5 quart bottle of 5W30. I...

What are you working on today?

Replaced left rear wheel bearing on my Grand Caravan. It was howling badly last time I drove it so I ordered in some el cheapo bearings. All this van will do is haul cargo for my shop so if they fail early, I’ll throw a couple more in it. 🤷‍♂️. Easy job for me. Now I have to put the front...

What are you working on today?

My Mini project threw a code in my check out before assembling the front end bumper cover. Engine coolant temp sensor was reading -40*F. So I swapped it from the unknown sensor included, as I reported before. Still got the reading. I remember that the connector was loose when going on, so I...
