    My worst oil change ever

At least it was a new Fram...my buddy got an "used" one in the box a looooong time ago. While he orders online for the most part, if he gets something in-store, he always opens and checks :)

    Post your latest oil change

Just to clarify my posting: 1. My OCI is once a year (new oil, new filter) 2. I just happened to drain 0.5 quart by removing the filter housing - and kept the filter (less than 2000 miles on it)

Oh..that was a joke.... I thought I would just "try" draining via the filter / housing as it didn't take too long (I also have ramps). Also, been getting a bit more oil burning, white smoke at the start up (a notorious, infamous Porsche Air-Oil-Separator issue) than usual so just trying to see...

This probably DOES NOT qualify as an OIL CHANGE as there was no CHANGE of oil...... 2005 Porsche Boxster 2.7 (M1 0W 40, Hengest filter, OCI - once year) Out: 0.5-6 or so(?) qrt of M1 0W 40 In: NONE Overfilled by a tiny bit (back in July) and decided to drain by removing the filter /...

Yes....I should have been more clear there. Not the oil pan gasket, if you are referring to that gasket :)

    Eneos 0w-20 at NAPA?

Of course...I only bought them when the price was like $16 for a jug (amazon, shipped), and no other brands were on sale / rebates at the time. I usually buy whatever is on sale / rebate (via this site) which means PUP, Castrol, M1 for the most part.

    Eneos 0w-20 at NAPA?

I tried both Eneos and Idemitsu engine oils in the past when they were on sale (Amazon, I think), and no issues (afterall ,they are engine oils and my engine didn't explode :-) ). I recently used their CVT Model S for our Subaru Outback CVT. They are both HUGE companies (and OEMs for various car...

Relevance of changing the oil filter every OCI

Yeah...it would be tough to put on a used rubber once "used" and taken off ;-)

Relevance of changing the oil filter every OCI

Both points seem valid although I have experience ONE seepage (very minor) from a defect, subaru oem oil filter but never a dripping drain plug(s), including one fumoto valve (knock, knock). I guess one can remove the filter to dump the old oil in the filter then reuse but in the grand scheme of...

Relevance of changing the oil filter every OCI

I hear you as I am beginning to "change my mindset" mostly for an environmental reason as I see a pile of used oil filters in our recycling center when I discard my used oil. I use Wix XP for both of our cars, 14 acura mdx and 16 subaru outback, but may switch to mobil 1 ep for mdx and change...

Better to turn it inside out...for better "performance" :-)

Rotella Gas Truck Oil for "Truck-only" - am I crazy?

I am on my way to buy an old, yellow VW bug. Will not only fill the engine with the truck oil but also soak the entire car in the oil...expect Bumblebee, a transformer, to rise out of the pool of oil...

Rotella Gas Truck Oil for "Truck-only" - am I crazy?

A great point. One of the key reasons I DIY is because of those ignorant ASE mechanics who doesn't spent extra 5 seconds to check the torque (especially after removing or installing wheels) before tightening the drain plug. Couldn't get them loose twice in the past, and another on my friends car...

Rotella Gas Truck Oil for "Truck-only" - am I crazy?

Apparently Shell added an AI additive that automatically reads the VIN whe poured I to the engine and set to blow up your engine if the car is classified as non truck :)
