Wife is making grumblings about new vehicle....

You must test drive the CX-5. I've had Honda's, Subaru's, a Mitsubishi, an Eagle, and an audi. The CX-5 is the best across reliability, handling, ride, mechanical design, interior, and joy of driving. With three vehicles, I'd suggest to the wife that you *also* get a new vehicle, and drop...

Can spark plug type really effect MPG?

That isn't how it works. The same amount of power (to charge the coil) will be used regardless of the resistance at the spark plug gap.

    Techron, Top Tier, Oil Changes

I occasionally dump a couple ounces of Techron in my 16.5 CX-5. I do mostly short, city trips, and not many of them. I run non-ethanol fuel. I change my oil once a year.

Can spark plug type really effect MPG?

I had a hard-starting 1976 Honda Civic. Carbed. I clipped the side electrode back, to give the flame kernel a straighter shot to the combustion chamber. It seemed to work. I now buy Ruthenium plugs, with the hope that the thinner wires provide less blockage of fresh charge, in lieu of...

Anti Seize- Not good to use?

I think it's likely that the plugs were over-torqued, and the threads were deformed, causing the difficult removal.

    Easy hydrostatic oil refresh/change

I have a John Deere X380. I was able to change out 400 cc of old hydrostatic oil, using a Mityvac. On my transmission, there's a vent plug at the top, left, rear of the tranny. I pulled off the cover, then the plug, and was able to fit the small hose from the Mityvac, down the opening. I...

    Sanded Rotors

Rust would have formed in those scratches. They are way too deep. The rust would have quickly destroyed the surface. Well-in the rust belt! I always bed in new pads. You want max braking from the first mile. You won't get that till pad material covers the disk, and the pads contour to the...

    Forest Fire season has started

I'm in the central US. I have a Forensics 0.1 PPM CO meter, and yesterday it was up to 1.5 PPM. It's normally at 0.0 in my home. It was up around 4.5 during the huge Canadian fires two? years ago.

Lithium power bank started smoking. Do power banks age out?

"No idea what lithium smoke is. You realize, the batteries use lithium ions, right?" What do you call the end result of lithium burning? Who on this forum would know what you're talking about? The batteries use Lithium metal, and other materials. The manufacturer doesn't load 'lithium ions'...

Lithium power bank started smoking. Do power banks age out?

That stink may have been lithium smoke. It's VERY poisonous. Cheap power banks use cheap, UNMATCHED cells, and that can cause fire/explosions. Allowing the bank to discharge below ~30% can cause crystals to grow, which short through the insulator. Boom!

    Subaru Outback vs Forester

We are replacing my wife's 2021 Outback. We both *hated* the 2024 Forester *and* the Outback. And what the hell is with the giant Ipad nonsense! I loved my 2000 Outback, and 2012 Impreza was a nice commuter car, but both were tinny and cheap feeling. Yet to test drive a RAV4, but she loves...

To seal or not to seal driveway

I seal every other year with water-based. Spray a bit of water, squeegee the sealer. I use insulating spray foam to plug cracks, then seal over them to keep sunlight off. The flex keeps the cracks water tight in winter and summer. NOTHING sticks harder, either!

    Geomagnetic Storm Warning

Two years ago, I got *fantastic* video of aurora. Digital camera, ISO set to 12,800, 24 fps, wide-open shutter. Hand-held, no tripod needed. You will see colors and movement you can't see with your eyes.

Subaru Outback years not burning oil

We have/had two 2012's... Impreza and Outback. Also a 2000 Outback. If you take the time to break the rings in, and do it right (Mid-throttle, '3rd' gear for a few seconds, coast, repeat a dozen or so times, immediately after purchase with a warmed-up engine), you won't have *any* oil burning...

Inaccurate Lumen Ratings On LED Light Bulbs

"There is no way the new bulb is twice as bright. (3010 vs. 6000)" Your eyes can see in starlight, and full noon sun. Your perception is logarithmic. Twice the lumens IS twice as bright, but you don't perceive it that way.
