    Delta crash at Toronto

In the mid 80’s my flight from San Antonio to Pittsburgh landed like a rock in Pittsburgh during a pretty good snowstorm. It hit so hard that several of the seatbelt signs and air vents above our heads detached and landed in our laps. Several people were assisted off the plane by EMS. Didn’t...

Article: comparing the two most inexpensive new cars in the USA - Mirage vs Versa.

Jetta is something to consider also. No CVT, a lot bigger interior room, they handle well and have a lot of features

Anyone else have a crazy dog that makes you laugh?

My pit mix girl does the same thing. She does not like the cold at all and can do her business in the morning in fifteen seconds flat. Her sister bernedoodle loves the cold and snow. She will stay out laying in the snow for hours and even then I have to drag her back in. I’d say it’s probably...

Valvoline R&P Where to buy in EU

Believe it or not when I get grease all over my hands and forearms when wrenching on my vehicles the best thing ever to clean up is regular vegetable oil. Way better than any automotive hand cleaner I’ve seen. Not that I’m advocating to add vegetable oil in the crankcase to desludge an engine...

Video on not taking social security at age 65

Same here. I retired from my city fire department with full pension and benefits at 52. I had worked jobs before during and shortly after the fire department so I have over twenty five years of SS contributions and I am glad the WEP penalty has been eliminated. I don’t turn 62 till 2026 and will...

Should I buy Thorogood 1957 boots?

I’ve had several pairs of Thorogood boots and have always gotten great wear and comfort from them. I shy away from the moc toe style though as I tend to grind the moc seams off of the toe because I somehow end up crawling a lot under houses. Always got good deals on them due to union...

    VW Heated Mirrors

I’m pretty sure the heated mirrors take the outside temperature into account. It’s not like they run during the summer. My GTI has the ability to have the heated seats and steering wheel come on when started as long as it’s cold enough. ( above 68F, 20C they do not work even if left on the...

My Random Thoughts on Keeping a Car Running for a while

I also live by every Sunday morning oil level checks and NEVER leave anything in my car. Whatever I get in the car with I take it out when I get home. My cars are always spotless “day one” inside.

Thread for photos that 100% do not violate any Terms Of Service, not political, not too lewd, no gas price pics etc.

Wow kinda looks like a sloth. That is fitting though as she is a grade A couch potato lol

    Boys (Men) and their toys......

My current toy is, as a bonus, my daily driver. 2024 VW GTI is a blast when pushed and very livable when just doing A to B stuff. It got high praise from one of my favorite YouTube car people Savagegeese. My past toy was a 2003 Softail Deuce that I had totally built out. Wasn’t riding it much...

What weight oil do you use in winter?

0W-30 year round in both my vehicles. Mobil1 ESP in the Grand Cherokee and HPL Euro in the GTI. Nice to hear completely normal sounding cold starts from both in the recent-10F mornings

Yes the VW stuff smells really good. The closest I’ve found to it is the “Shop Pro” brand -30 formula I find at my local AZ

    Mobil 1 ESP 0w20 vs liqui moly toptec6200 0w20 vw508/509

I dropped the factory fill in my new MK8 GTI at 700 miles and all it will ever see is HPL 0w-30. It’s the new EA888 Gen 4 with a little more HP than gen 3 but I’m not sure what else is different but VW 504 is what I’m running.

Why are there so many wiper arm connection types?

I was having my yearly Jetta safety inspection done and they came out and said I needed new wipers to pass. Internally I smiled and said sure go ahead. I was responding to emails from work and had the time. I saw them grabbing adapters left and right. Calling several other people over...

    Sea water for fire fighting?

As a retired firefighter I can attest that most hydrant/water systems are designed to supply normal water usage and also flow maybe four hydrants for fires per sector. They can, and I have called the water company to increase pressure for large fire events but this has to be done in a controlled...

non-Top Tier fuel + Techron every 5k miles vs. Top Tier all the time?

I only use Sunoco gas in my GTI and Grand Cherokee. Within two miles of my house there is an Exxon, BP, Shell, Walmart, Speedway, GoMart, Marathon and the Sunoco I always use. The Sunoco price matches the Walmart as they are near each other and all the others are within five cents of the...

    Durable & noob-friendly wax/sealant recommendations?

Absolutely a better substitute for wax. Just clean car up well spray on a small section at a time, wipe in well and wipe off. When I spray my car the water literally bounces back off.

    Durable & noob-friendly wax/sealant recommendations?

Best bang for your buck imo is Groits Ceramic 3 in1 Wax. Very easy to apply and remove and gives very good water beading. They also have a wash infused with it and the water beads up runs off my concrete driveway lol.
