It sure seems your manual is out to lunch. Turbo HydraMatic is a GM automatic transmission you should be using dexron not gear oil. Old jeeps used either GM or chrysler automatic transmissions. GL-4 is used in old GM manual transmission among other things. GL4 also was not around in 71.

Right tools for the job will help you a lot. Get a M31 oil filter wrench off amazon. Use a paper towel in the cup if the oil filter is even a slightly loose fit. I just use my cheap ramps on my Toyotas there is enough room for me. Some rubber mats underneath ramps to keep them from moving...

I would take Quaker State ultimate protection 5w-30 over Quaker State full synthetic any day of the week but I'm not an expert.

I would also be looking at your fuel trims. They are a good indicator of issues.

According to fuelly.com the average MPG for a 2007 Lincoln MKZ 21.6 MPG 2008 20.5 MPG avg. 2009 19.6 MPG avg. Looks like these cars did not do well on avg MPG from 2007 - 2010. Look to me like it is what it is.

Most of the better battery chargers I have run around 14.2 - 14.5 V max. Back in the early 1990s had a nissian car that would charge up to 15.1 V that thing was hard on batteries. Most cars I've checked in the last 25 years don't charge more than 14.4 V. So this should give you an idea of range.

Wow that is a new one for me. I would pull the plug to see if it was loose or signs it was leaking. I've seen a plug porcelain insulator separate from the metal body before.
