    Confessions of a Recovering Thickie

There are people with tens of thousands of track miles running 5W-50 in BMW B58 engines (with sputter coated bearings) that come with 0W-20 from factory in TU2 guise. Nothing happens except wear goes down. Redbull Driftbrothers run 300V 10W-60 and BMW M tore down their stock engine and it looked...

    Confessions of a Recovering Thickie

Good thing you're not a lawyer. It's a CYA, they are just saying that if you deviate you are responsible, not them. They are not saying that deviating will cause damage. They are saying that damaged caused by deviation is not covered by warranty. The first line literally says recommended anyway...

M1 FS/EURO 0W-40 vs Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40 - which would you run?

Imagine BMW engines if the oils were less gasket compatible 😂.

FORD Gen 3 Coyote engine tolerances good for 15W-50 engine oil in the summer?

5W-50 Supercar is a cutting edge formula. 15Ws are often older or afterthoughts. A higher winter rating doesn’t necessarily mean the oil is thicker at operating temperatures. It mostly matters for shear resistance which is good in modern multi-grade oils. In any case the HTHS of the 5W-50 either...

FORD Gen 3 Coyote engine tolerances good for 15W-50 engine oil in the summer?

    There won’t be a problem but I’d just run a 5W-50 personally.

    Ashless Dispersants in Gas Engines

ESP X4 has almost no magnesium, so I'm not sure.

    M1 ESP X4 0W-40 4.2k mi; 2010 Mazda 3 2.5L 143.7k mi

Nope, I notice zero perceptible difference between 0W-20 and this in power or fuel economy believe it or not.

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

Gotta admit, this is the best troll job we’ve seen in a long time.

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

Dexos2 got effectively split into R for gasoline engines and D for diesel in the last update. Corvette and Camaro oil was dexos2 and became R overnight. Manuals went from dexos2 to R in the next print. From GM / Mobil page: This has all been covered at length in many places. Again, note that...

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

DexosR is Euro oil. Those two oils are very similar. The X4 is better though because it has slightly higher HTHS and holds its viscosity better in testing / UOA results. The program lead for that oil personally told me it was iterated on from the original ESP Formula which was renamed Supercar...

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

Pot, meet kettle. I've seen nothing to conflict with the general sentiment that is that you can run the finest Euro oils in everything. Everyone here is going to tell you to "run the spec" in warranty. Outside that, everyone is going to tell you to "run the spec" or better when the spec is not...

But think about the oil squirters! Those poor pistons. 🤣

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

He doesn't understand the Walther equation or ASTM D341 and what happens to oil at it gets hotter. He also doesn't understand that flow out of an orifice nozzle like an oil squirter is not linear with respect to kinematic viscosity. It's not worth wasting time going into detail when he doesn't...

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

Call it what you will. GM, Ford, Honda, and others were destroying engines with their low RPM torque demands. They all issued firmware to mitigate it for one model or another. BTW how can we take anyone who willingly purchased a Nissan Rogue seriously when discussing powertrain engineering 🤣...

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

Clearly you haven't driven a modern car from an American or Japanese marque. GM and others issued software updates to combat LSPI because they were and still are "lugging" engines on purpose for fuel economy reasons. In fact, I don't know a single person who drives a manual that shifts as soon...

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

I'd have to see GMs documentation, but dexos2 oils were all or nearly all ACEA C3 at one point. I picked 12 of them and checked all 12 PDS and they were ACEA C3. Whether that is by definition or just coincidence, that's what was happening. Then, dexos2 became dexosR. Technically dexosR...

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

Yes, they are such meticulous engineers to have crafted the dexos specs and then sold 800k engines with inadequate oil pressure (or is it load/HTHS?) using said spec. Sometimes the engineers know exactly what they are doing, but sometimes things are just plain dumb.

no more Ravenol EFS(VOLVO VCC RBS0-2AE 0W-20) in USA

Just use ESP X2, it's probably better anyway. Or even better, a 30 as Javier mentioned.

Overlooking a Critical Issue With Our New Tires

If anything, Bilstein B6 raises ride height a small amount on most applications since it has very high internal gas pressure.

Euro oil spec thats better than dexos 1/r?

Don’t bother lol, we clearly have a VW powertrain engineer here who works in AVL and GT-SUITE tools and knows all. Probably designed EA888 😂.
