Here's the picture of my owner's manual...

If it wasn't DI I'd say 5w30, but considering the fuel system I'm gonna say 10w. Fuel economy loss should be negligible compared to the potential for better protection in the face of fuel dilution.

    Towing vehicle reccomendation? (Followup)

If I was buying something specifically to tow that car (assuming approx. 6K total payload) I'd lean toward a heavy half unless it's very new - 2012-up? I agree any heavy 3/4 or 1-ton diesel is total overkill; I'd put myself in a 350 or 6.0-powered Chevy 2500, but a heavy half pickup or...

Is it Ethical to market oils past 20k miles?

I don't see all that much difference in an unsuspecting consumer falling for the labeling on a bottle of M1 Annual Protection vs. believing it necessary to follow the 3K/3 month numbers on the sticker Valvoline Instant Oil Change puts on the windshield of their 4 cyl. Accord.

    Ford 460 Oil info?

I agree with those saying 15w40. A good friend has an E150 short van with a 300-6 in it which he runs good ol' Rotella T4 15w40 in, and nothing he or I did with it ever seemed to bother the engine in the slightest.

Brake Rotors - what causes this?

Rust, plain and simple. I see this a lot in central KY from vehicles that appear to have come from further North.

Whatever it is, make the kid pay for it. It will keep the truck, but more importantly him, in better shape.

    Next Odyssey oil change

Keep going with what you have. It may be interesting to switch oils around but I believe there's merit (however small) in sticking with one oil so the additives are replenished rather than always being transitioned back and forth.

What is your opinion on my tire wear?

The shallow center on the fronts is curious, however I'd keep on driving and rotating. If it was mine I think I'd be running the pressure much higher, as I do with all FWD vehicles. I've checked tire wear and inflation on hundreds of vehicles and have yet to see any front-wheel drive vehicle...

    Other Uses For Gear Oil

I've been lubing my motorcycle chain with it and it requires adjustment much less often than when I used Amsoil's spray-on Metal Protector.

Do you regularly do tire rotations?

    Yes, every 7,500 mi.

1997 Chevrolet Cavalier low idle surging

I just worked on a '97 last week - wouldn't idle at all. As soon as I started spraying carb cleaner down into the throttle body it started getting better, so I removed and cleaned it thoroughly which fixed it. Commsnded idle is very low, barely above 600 when warm.

How much fuel economy difference 5-20 vs 5-30?

Is there any indication there is abnormal wear in the engine? Or, is the model's factory oil spec known to be inadequate? If "no" to both, 5w30 is unecessary.

Oil light comes on at idle after warmed up.

Change oil (10w30?) and see if it satisfies the light. Next, get a new oil pressure sender and, preferably, a manual gauge setup to test the pressure. Otherwise you're guessing and could waste a lot of money.

Basic needs & fears of married men & women.

What's there looks accurate to me. Among other things, males are predisposed to want authority over things and know they can take care of/protect themselves and others. Mastery of something can give the feeling of having control over it - which isn't always a bad thing, but is easily...

    old Murray/Briggs push mower

SAE 30 may be best for it but I wouldn't worry about draining the 15w40 before running it a few hours - at least use it as an engine flush. I've messed with countless of those engines and never seen one that showed detectable internal wear. I think you could run it at 100% load with 0w20 and it...

    Muzzleloaders

Killed my first deer with a youth-size 40 cal. that my dad made from Hawken design qeues. Hunted a good bit more with percussion muzzleloaders but all other kills have been with center fire. I have two Colt cap and ball replica revolvers and BIL has a Remington replica that we enjoy shooting on...

    Highest Mileage Vehicle?

Being 26 I've only put a moderate amount of miles on any one vehicle. 50K on my GMC, 70K on my Cruze (before wifey took it over), and less than 10K each on the others. My Suburban has 331K (possibly 431K) but is on small block #4. However I've been present to the accumulation of lots of miles on...
