How to identify a Continental brand serpentine belt?

I wasn't aware that Conti made serpentine belts. However, now that I am, I'd still opt for a Bando or an Optibelt belt.

    Recommend 1/4" torque wrench

I use a Force brand torque wrench. It's made in Taiwan and comes with a calibration certificate. So far it's been great.

    wiring advice

Higher current drawing loads, like halogen headlights and electric fans, may cause excessive voltage drop if the total wire run is too long (supply length plus ground length) and/or not of adequate cross sectional area. To combat this potential problem manufacturers ground the load close by and...

Liqui Moly Molygen 0w-20 or Castrol GTX Full Synthetic 0w-20 Cost doesn't matter

No, they didn't. Amsoil's marketing spiel for their 0w20 oil (posted by Glenda) references two tests which tested their 5w30 oil and not their 0w20 oil. As I posted, they're conflating test results and marketing spiel to trick gullible people and Amsoil shills.

Liqui Moly Molygen 0w-20 or Castrol GTX Full Synthetic 0w-20 Cost doesn't matter

I wonder why Amsoil conflates data from one product's test results with marketing spiel for another one of their products.

    TOYOTA OIL DRAIN PLUG GASKET

I use those drain plug washers all the time, as I purchased 500 of them from Temu for $3.50. Anyhow, the trick is to tighten them until they crush a bit. I give them one or two ugga duggas with a regular box wrench.

Do I have to change my coolant?

Because I'm lazy, I use an Australian brand of coolant called Nulon One Coolant. It's allegedly good for 1,000,000 kms (~625,000 miles) or 10 years.

Valvoline oils: which do you like or prefer?

I wouldn't be surprised if Napa Syn is made by Valvoline. A national auto parts chain in Australia uses rebranded Valvoline as their store brand:

Yes, Synpower is very popular in my region.

Valvoline oils: which do you like or prefer?

I use Valvoline Synpower 5w40 in everything. It's always cheap at my local hardware store.

Would HPL EC clean this up?

I'd just clean it with some diesel while you have the rocker cover off. Leave the oil pan plug out while cleaning and most (if not all) of the diesel will exit the engine automatically.

Rattling Noise With A/C On — Goes Away When Turned Off

I had a very similar problem on my Toyota 2AR-FE engine. Using a stethoscope it would have been easy to conclude that it was the AC compressor clutch, the coolant pump, the alternator, or the serpentine belt tensioner. However, the problem was resolved when I replaced the rubber bushing in the...

Valvoline Maxlife ATF, the best for all applications?

I put Maxlife in my Toyota U760E and it shifted a lot better than it did with Castrol Transmax (because the Castrol was too thick). Anyhow, I then added 6 oz of Lubegard Platinum and its performance improved some more. Next, I used a scan tool and reset the TCM to factory settings. Shifts were...

    Changing recommended oil grade

My owner's manual has an SAE oil viscosity chart and recommends you pick an appropriate grade oil based on the vehicle's operating environment.

    Changing recommended oil grade

I purchased my replacement spring from Temu for 5 cents. (I actually purchased a box of 440 various springs for $22 and measured the spring tension and travel with a kitchen scale and a vernier caliper to choose an appropriate spring). I also recently replaced the cam chain tensioner when I...

    Changing recommended oil grade

My cam phaser lots its mind with 5w30 oil. However, the OEM spring for the lock pin only exerted 3 ounces of pressure on the pin in the locked position. I've upgraded the spring to about 42 ounces (locked) and I now run 5w40 without any problems.

    What happened to quality control?

QC was abandoned when corporations discovered it was cheaper to expect a percentage of defects during the manufacturing process and just provide a replacement item for those few customers who bother to return to the store seeking restitution.

    Changing recommended oil grade

Thick oil has a habit of pushing Toyota VVTI intake phaser lock pins out and not allowing them to re-seat and lock. This causes an awful rattle on a cold start. However, the problem is caused by Toyota using a weak spring which is then exacerbated by thick oil. The resolution is to change the...
