1999 Mercury Grand Marquis power seat question 😵‍💫

IDK & I don’t know these cars inside-out. I could probably take a decent guess as to why the did it this way. And I may be right, I may be crazy, but it’s most likely for cost/convenience.

I am replacing slide pin boots on every brake pad change

I’ve gotten my boots from RA when I ordered brakes & rotors. I use silicone paste so that the boots don’t deteriorate. However they do tear now & again.

Is Maxlife Extended Protection ATF a true full synthetic

For the way that you are asking the question I’d say NO, it’s not synthetic for the way that you want a real full synthetic. However I would say that it is Group III according to the Safety Data Sheet (Section 3) that “The Critic” has provided.

1999 Mercury Grand Marquis power seat question 😵‍💫

I believe it’s the notches for the standard manual seat that came in lower trim levels of your car.

Took a second test drive of the 2025 Jetta GLI 6-speed manual

Good idea Hermann to bring a psi gauge & pump especially since you are so very interested in the JETTA . And you can’t beat the base price of a JETTA with a stick, for such a nice overall car. I even like’em and I’m not even a VW guy. I’d be inclined to consider a Jetta or Golf even in spite of...

Took a second test drive of the 2025 Jetta GLI 6-speed manual

    ^^^ Yes! I remember when the JETTA’s & PASSAT’s were considered the baby(le$$er expensive) AUDI’s. (y)

Took a second test drive of the 2025 Jetta GLI 6-speed manual

I learned how to drive on manual transmission vehicles, cars & trucks. And even 3-on the-tree. And even drove some 6 & 10 wheel dump trucks. It’s not my favorite thing to do especially with our climate, roads, stop & go/slow & go type of environment and not the greatest knees. I like cars in...

ILSAC specs and phosphorus / ZDDP levels

^^^ I thought that too much ZDDP can actually cause corrosion/pitting?

Toyota's new 2.5L has proved itself

I too have this engine & hybrid system in our 2023 VENZA. No issues and(statistically) TOYOTA is the world leader in reliability and their hybrid vehicles supposedly have taken that reliability up a notch.

    Gambling with non-OEM brake pads?

I have never gone back to OE for brakes/rotors, only aftermarket. I’ve done well!

Took a second test drive of the 2025 Jetta GLI 6-speed manual

I remember your 1st post and you really seemed to like the one you tested. And the video that I posted was super positive about that car. Could it be that this recent test drive is just that particular vehicle? Maybe the tire psi too? Or even the tire brand? Maybe the car was sitting on the lot...

ILSAC specs and phosphorus / ZDDP levels

I believe that the ILSAC GF3(>1000 ppm of ZDDP) from the early 2000’s, changed in around 2011 to GF4(~800 ppm ZDDP). I can’t remember every year that the GF# changed. I also believe the largest ZDDP/PHOS change/drop was from GF3 to GF4 and have stayed pretty steady since. Some oil brands have...

    VRP in brand new truck?

I don’t believe that you’ll do any harm to your brand new engine by using VRP. I believed the same thing when others would ask the same question(“can I use HM oil in a new engine”) about these oils when they too first hit the market. No harm should come to the engine from VRP from what anyone...

Getting ready to bleed brakes. Do you shake the bottle of brake fluid?

It’s good to hear that you’re going to bleed your brake system. 👍

Keeping a vehicle for the long haul…oil choice

Equally as importantly as just the oil, is good overall maintenance of everything.

Valvoline High Mileage Synthetic vs Castrol Edge High Mileage 5w30

No, because they're both a 5W30 grade of oil. The fact that one oil has a slightly lower cSt(as you mention, thinner viscosity) means little. However, I guess if you wanted to compare the FORD 5.0L calls for 5W20, and you want to stay closer to this grade of oil, then you might want to use the...

Walmart Supertech price point for 0w-40

Or if all of the other mainstream brand such as M1, Castrol, QS 0W40’s(which I have seen at WM on occasion) are all sold out, customers will gladly buy the ST 0W40…I believe! Or Amazon

Car prices to rise due to tariffs and certain vehicles possibly ...

I apologize if this has already been mentioned in the 11 too many to read pages that I didn't read prior to responding. I am wondering if some dealers will raise prices on imported vehicles that are & have already been here in the United States even prior to the April 2nd tariff, and then blame...
