new battery can give 300 mi range in just 5 min

Article claims 2.7 seconds! “In all-wheel-drive Han L and Tang L models, two of these motors will be used with a combined output of 1084bhp. BYD claims this will be enough to propel its heavy Han L sedan from a standstill to 62mph in 2.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 190mph.”

2025 Toyota Rav4 personal engine oil struggle.

Here in Canada, I went to a Toyota dealer with the intention to purchase 0W16 TGMO and a Toyota filter for the first oil change on my 2024 Prius. Like you, I was keen to get the high moly considering 0W16 oil. They brought out a 5 quart jug of M1 AFE 0W16 for $45 usd or they had 1 litre...

Ford CEO Says Large Electric Trucks And SUVs Have 'Unresolvable' Problems

I’m wondering if the bZ4X seems to be lagging behind other EV’s because Toyota has been more conservative with the operating parameters of the batteries. I know that on my Prius Prime the battery full charge is limited to about 90% of the actual maximum capacity and there are other provisions...

    Best Used Commuter Car?

I agree the 2001 to 2005 Honda Civics are not recommended - I had bad experiences with two of them: Manual transmission synchros wear out and the automatic transmission has internal filter screens that plug up and cause long shifts when cold. Both issues get worse over time until a good running...

How far do you push your range?

It depends greatly on your gasoline and electricity prices. In AZ you won’t save much with an EV but in British Columbia, Canada, gasoline is expensive (about $4.50 per us gallon) and electricity is very cheap ($0.05 to 0.10 usd per kWh depending on time of day) therefore I am saving...

4x4 systems in different brand 1/2 ton trucks. Are some better than other?

I have lots of experience driving pickups in snow and icy conditions. I drove Chevy work trucks and my F150 in northern BC and Alberta for many years. In my opinion the Chevy trucks with Auto 4x4 and good snow tires are excellent. My 2014 F150 has auto 4x4 but it has a bit of a lag engaging 4x4...

    A farewell to ICE

Brons2 - it sounds like you have really done your homework and made a great choice. I have never considered leasing but in this case it sounds really good; especially considering how fast EV technology is evolving and you have zero concerns about battery life. Every situation is unique but in...

rodents chewing fuel lines - what can be done?

I keep urinal puck from Dollar store in a ziplock bag under the hood in both vehicles - I had lots of issues before but no more mice afterwards. I control the amount of smell by adjusting the ziplock opening.

    Generator vs Inverter Generator

Interesting thread. Power outages are pretty common where I live. Last power outage I ran 2 fridges, lights and some electronics off the 120v, 1500 watt outlet in my Prius Prime. Fully charged battery will provide power for a very long time and then the gas engine will cycle to keep the power...

EV charging example costs more than it would to fill up a premium fuel car

My wife and I are very pleased with our recent purchase of a Toyota Prius Prime SE plug in hybrid. It seems to be the best of both worlds - charging at home and cheap EV miles for 95% of our driving and fuel efficient hybrid operation for longer road trips. Zero range anxiety! And we don’t...

Thoughts on the 2023 Nissan Rogue 1.5 variable compression engine?

I just spent 4 days driving a fwd Rogue rental car around the Miami area and I got 7.1 litres per 100 km or 33 mpg. This was city and highway with aircon running all the time. I liked the vehicle; roomy for 4 adults and very comfortable seats. Lots of luggage space as well. I did notice the...

You know the part number for your oil filter (across multiple brands) and check prices and for elusive wire backed filter media when shopping in any store that carries oil filters.

What are the driving characteristics of using too (1) low and (2) high of a viscosity ATF in an automatic transmission?

Our old 2001 Civic tranny would slip like crazy, especially in cold weather, until the fluid heated up and got thin enough to flow through the plugged up internal filter screens. My solution was to use Dex 6 and thin it even more with seafoam which kept the car running for a few more years...

    A Robot vacuum ?

My wife and I really enjoy our Roomba. It’s a 985 model with wifi mapping and some sort of vision. It’s great at picking up lots of fine dust and hair from our laminate floors. It has a good pleated paper final filter and I do empty it out after every 2 to 3 runs. I do have to put away dangling...

Fram Ultra… did they switch back to wire screen backed media or did I buy old stock? XG4386

Okay, after going back through many past discussions on this topic I saw a lot of speculation regarding the new media vs OG. I agree that it is not just about the surface area. I also have seen the independent testing showing that the previous version met or likely exceeded Fram’s 99% at 20...

Latest Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter as of 2023 January - Is it still a good choice?

The new Ultra has 50% more surface area than the OG, 133 sqin vs 89 sqin in the XG10535 size. Must be more space for pleats without the wire mesh in there. This is a significant improvement provided that you can get past the wavy look.

Fram Ultra… did they switch back to wire screen backed media or did I buy old stock? XG4386

My opinion is that the new version of the Ultra is actually significantly better! 50% more surface area 133 sqin verses 89 sqin for the new vs OG XG10535. Plus the new media has slightly higher efficiency, according to Fram. Still better than 99% at 20 microns. We just have to get past the...

Interesting Motor Trend article about EVs

If you could get a Tesla to charge while driving it would have to tow a 21 kW (28 hp) generator to hold the battery charge at 70 miles per hour.
