Oxy-clean works well for this. It is peroxide combined with carbonate that is safer for fabric.

I use an open pan sitting on a large metal tray (18" x 30") with a 1" lip. I still sometimes manage to spill a few drops.

I have also been using PP 5W30 in my Sienna since discovering this website in 2008. I want to keep the engine as clean as possible and avoid oil residue in the idle control valve. PP 5W30 also has great cold weather properties.
