Grease Compatibility - Mixing White Lithium and Gear Oil?

Corn head grease would work well. Designed for gear boxes and semi fluid.

Does it bug you people taking their dogs shopping in stores?

Yeah I don't know when it became acceptable to take your dog everywhere with you but certain places are just a no for me. Grocery stores for example. I understand if it is a service dog but most of the ones I see are not.

    Thoughts on tankless water heaters

I stand by my statement that if it only lasted 4 years you didn't maintain it.

    Thoughts on tankless water heaters

Your the one that said you would have to buy a pump suggesting you don't have one. So to me that says you never did maintenance on the the one you supposedly had.

    Thoughts on tankless water heaters

Well you said you would have to buy a pump and flush it so it doesn't sound to me like you have had one and if you did then like I said before you didn't maintain it.

    Thoughts on tankless water heaters

So clearly you have never owned one.

    Thoughts on tankless water heaters

If you managed to kill a tankless in 4 years it was lack of maintenance on your part. Especially if you killed it because of the water quality. They have to be flushed yearly.

    Cold Climate Heat Pumps

This is why in a previous thread I mentioned not swinging the temperature that far. You end up with the unit running for hours trying to catch back up. Not sure what thermostat your using but you could use the emergency heat to bring the house temp back up but obviously its more expensive to...

Using an existing 4 conductor wire to supply a 220 v surface mounted heater with electric fan

175 is the cut out temperature. 135 it will cut back in. The 40 is how many degrees below the cut out that it cuts back in.

Spray foam insulation - PA installer

Look up "Spray Jones" on youtube. Ton of good information about spray foam. Spray foam is far superior to fiberglass or mineral wool insulation but its not cheap. Here is a really good read about spray foam and R values. https://www.cufca.ca/docs/R-Value%20Fairy%20Tale.pdf

Financial comparison - heat pump water heater vs tankless

The do. Its called a Sanden SANCO2. Nyle system used to also make an add on heat pump for your existing water heater called the geyser. They stopped making them which is a shame because I would buy one right now if they still made them.

Is it just me or are municipalities using more salt on the roads?

They dump the stuff on the road like its free here in Ohio. I actually had one of the young plow drivers tell me him and his buddies try to see who can dump the most salt. Like gee thanks we sure appreciate our vehicles rusting out sooner. The brine is even worse and they use it just as heavy...

    Ford/international fiasco

International took a lot of the blame for problems caused by Ford. I can specifically remember hearing stories about International engineers telling Ford that something wouldn't work or wouldn't last and Ford doing it anyway. VGT turbo actuator on the 6.0 comes to mind. You also have to...

Plumbing / water softener install question

Yeah all the way to the heater. Pipe was probably from the late 90s to early 2000s if I was guessing.

    Anyone here still using 15w40?

Not when its cold. First winter I switched my old 84 F250 over to 5W40 I was amazed by how much faster it cranked over and how much faster oil pressure came up. I try to tell guys all the time that run diesels in the cold to dump the 15w40 and run either 5W40 or 10W30. Some get it and others...

Plumbing / water softener install question

I tried to use those shark bite hoses when I replaced a water heater a couple years ago that was plumbed with cpvc. The pipe was so brittle the shark bite fittings wouldn't work. Ended up having to do it all in cpvc.

Plumbing / water softener install question

Pretty sure those elbows are like a compression fitting. Your pipes are CPVC though. Just be careful that stuff gets brittle when its old.
