    No Engine Oil Dipstick

There was no transmission dipstick on my 18 Sierra as it has the 8 speed. I added one to it. I'm sure there is an aftermarket option that could be made to work if you want to spend the time and effort to do it.

The craziest Rock Auto Shipping pricing yet

Yep, thats essentially the same nonsense I got when I was trying to resolve the issue on their website. The order was not a small number of parts either, it had fully assembled struts, sway links, and the various other front suspension pieces I would need to fix this car. Too bad none of them...

The craziest Rock Auto Shipping pricing yet

RA refused to take them back or give me any option for returning them, other than wanting charging me a ridiculous amount of money via their website to print a label and ship them back. Since they refused to resolve the issue, my credit card company reversed the charges due to the fraud...

    ABS codes

I have an Innova scanner that will read ABS and SRS, works great for most vehicles. I've used it on GM and Ford OBD2 vehicles to diagnose codes and then clear them for both. I can't remember the exact model but I believe its a 51xx. I bought it used off Ebay for around $60, you can probably find...

The craziest Rock Auto Shipping pricing yet

My last experience with RockAuto ended up being my last one ever again. Ordered some parts for a friends car to fix the front suspension, get sent a bunch of parts with no parts #s on them and no way to verify what I even got due to this. Of course, they didn't fit the car, go to try to return...

    1999 Camaro - Couldn't resist.

I did a search myself the other day. Found 10 total, lowest price was $5K going all the way up to $13K. For what you paid I'd have bought the car without hesitation and I don't even have a use for it.

    1999 Camaro - Couldn't resist.

Yes, even if you do take care of them. My 89 has Ttops and they leak like a sieve in the rain or if I wash the car. They weren't taken care of at all, maybe one day I will decide to put on new rubber to make them seal properly. Its a lot of work to do though and I never drive the car in the rain...

What's the deal with Unleaded 88?

Depends on the area. Around here, it can be anywhere from 51% to 83% per law. They usually drop the ethanol content down in winter to allow better cold starting. Last winter when I ran a few tanks of just E85, I tested it and got around 70% each time on the tester.

What's the deal with Unleaded 88?

This is not true. Every vehicle is different and you can definitely tune older vehicles with narrow band O2 sensors to run E85 without issue. For example, my 18 Sierra is now flex fuel as I added the ethanol sensor and made the necessary changes in the PCM to allow use of E85. Required a few...

Saved $200 and some e-waste yesterday

I enjoy building circuits, last project I made was my big tesla coil. Its amazing the number of things I've saved for myself and friends over the years that only requires a little bit of soldering. Most people just throw it away and buy something new. Same thing with working on cars. Just...

    Ford 8.8 differential oil

Ford 9 and 8.8 rear ends are fairly common swaps for the 4th gen Fbodies. The small stock 10 bolt is about the worst choice GM could have made for these cars and lots of manual transmissions have snapped them with a hard launch on street tires. It was always a concern for me while I still ran...

    Unsinkable Dreadnought

I know a guy that had his frame crack on an old F150 and being an iron worker he welded a bunch of scrap iron to it to keep the frame together. Drove it for a while until the engine finally gave up. I always expected for him to have a story one day about how he was driving it down the road and...

Good idea to replace platter HDD with SSD in home surveillance system?

If you have more money than you know what to do with, sure. You will be burning up SSDs quickly in a surveillance system, they are not designed for constant writing to the drive. Stick with a decent quality HDD. I have had home CCTV DVR systems for almost 2 decades now and only had a couple of...

Quickjack. Love mine and if you want it can be hung on the wall.

    OBDII on Ford Pickups

I had heard some 94 Corvettes had the OBD2 port but I've never personally seen one. My 94 Camaro still has the OBD1 port but the PCM is the FLASH memory one that can be programmed from the port, it was used in all the 94-95 LT1 engines. 94-97 turned out some weird stuff in the transition from...

Hertz CEO says buying EVs was a big mistake and very costly to the company margins

I don't have a Tesla but when I look at the EV maps for this area only the larger cities have them. Aside from that, the ones in Peoria and East Peoria seem to be out of service most of the time and there are very few of them to begin with. East Peoria only has 4 in the Target parking lot and...

Hertz CEO says buying EVs was a big mistake and very costly to the company margins

Me too. I laugh every time I see them. You couldn't pay me to take an EV as rental, especially here in the Midwest. Charging stations don't exist in most areas here, they are confined to larger city areas. If you want to drive around Chicago, sure, you can do it. Of course, driving around...

    OBDII on Ford Pickups

Oh, and the B bodies as well since they also used the LT1 in 95. I forgot about them.

    OBDII on Ford Pickups

The only thing you need to read a 95 Corvette or Fbody PCM is a OBD2 style connector and an OBD1 compatible reader. Or just use a jumper connector and directly connect to the pins on the OBD2 port. I've scanned and data logged many 95 Y and F bodies over the years and never had any issues. The...

    YouTube - I'm out...

Firefox and Adblock plus still works for me. I get that stupid pop up on occasion but all you need to do is close Firefox, open it back up, and it will go away again. Unlike Chrome, Google can't manipulate anything in Firefox. Yet another reason why not to use Chromium based browsers.
