    1998 Yamaha PW80

I think some place like Buchanan’s will make you a single spoke to spec for not that much.

    1998 Yamaha PW80

It’s looking great! Is there a spoke missing from the rear wheel or is that an optical illusion?

    1998 Yamaha PW80

Maybe you can add a spacer to get it to clear. I’m guessing you can mod it to fit. I agree with the premix initially. I’d err on the rich side, maybe 20:1.

Looking great. I have a lot of Hozan tools. Expensive, but a joy to use. I feel like you should get Yamaha stickers for the tank.

4 stroke titanium valves with copper beryllium seats

I also have nothing definitive to add, but I agree you weren’t the recipient of stellar customer service. I’d try to develop a relationship with someone local if possible. I have noticed that good service has become incredibly hard to find lately. It’s as if nobody wants to work anymore.

    1998 Yamaha PW80

It’s looking real good. Sometimes I’ll reset the crown race 90 degrees to get rid of that on center notch feeling. But you’re right: roller bearings are the ticket here. I have to install new fork seals on the Showa forks on my Buell and I’m dreading it. Looking forward to seeing this buttoned...

That difference in the engine is night and day. Can’t wait to see it all painted.

    1998 Yamaha PW80

Really nice work and I’m enjoying this thread. Can’t help but marvel at how abused this bike was. I had the original Yamaha Mini-Enduro when it came out so there’s a nostalgia element as well. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses. Your daughters are lucky to have a handy father.

My mother in law and sister in law have the Telluride. My kid has a Santa Fe hybrid. They’re all about a year old, and so far seem like fine cars.

Are the days of the 10k OCI over with?

No offense intended, but your premise is 100 percent wrong. You say, disparagingly, “capitalism at its finest “ insinuating that capitalism and a wide variety of choices are somehow mutually exclusive. Wrong. It’s the free markets that provide myriad choices. Free markets allow the consumer to...

    Chain cleaner and lube

I do this daily, for a living. I have an ultrasonic cleaner at work. Finish Line One Step is without question the greatest thing going. I’ve been a professional bicycle mechanic for 45 years. Many products have gotten worse. One Step works great. When I was at the height of my powers as a...

Orange needs to be refreshed quite often. Stan’s smells awful (IMO). Both work pretty well.

Anyone in here have a bike that still has carbs?

I just replaced the CV carb on a Buell with a Mikuni HSR 42. They call it an easy kit and they’re not kidding. Totally transformed the bike . I should have done it years ago.

Think I killed my first bicycle rim

I’d just replace the rim. Loosen the spokes on the bad wheel and tape a new rim with similar ERD and width then transfer the spokes one by one. If you take your time and make small adjustments you will figure it out. Unless you hate doing that kind of thing. I get that too.

    Honda CL500 vs Triumph 400X

Would really like to see spoked wheels and an upswept pipe at a minimum. If you’re going to call it a scrambler.

    Shimano Dura-Ace HG901 chain failure

It’s either a fluke (my guess) or a bad batch. The design cannot be questioned as it’s well proven. A long time ago I snapped a RH Record crank arm. It was nearly new and free of any stress riser. Inside, you could clearly see a flaw in the metal. I never considered changing brands or models. To...
