Mopar or Amsoil or OEM coolant - Jeep JK 2014

Was it the orange dyed G-05 or the new OAT in your Jeep? Stick with G-05 if it’s the former. If it’s the new purple/pink fill, it’s a OAT and you can go Mopar or if you’re willing to do a complete flush, Prestone or Peak EcoShield/Titanium. Prestone(and the two Peak coolants) is now an American...

    Liqui-Moly Radiator Cleaner or RMI-25?

IMO, it’s a must have for modern cooling systems. I find the fittings to be finicky for some cars.

Fram Ultra Air Filter (sold exclusively at Walmart).

I used an Ultra for my car. Meh. The media was nice but the gasket was concerning. I went back to OE Toyota. My preference unless it’s a simple panel/cartridge filter is OEM. Especially Japanese molded frame/fiber filters.

Running different OEM MTF’s in other make vehicles

I know the Honda guys use GM Synchromesh in a pinch. And that or Red Line MTL/MTL-LV would be my pick unless an esoteric fluid is called for. I used Chevron Dex/Merc fluid in a Ford F-150 with the Mazda M5 with no issues when the neighbor said it was popping out to gear. There was a leak that...

brake pad ears . lube or not

Most recent brake job I did - 2005 Toyota Sienna, Bosch-made Duralast Elite pads I put Molykote M77 behind the pad support ledges/abutment clips on the bracket side. Then just a slight film on the pad ears and a little on the caliper “ears” where it goes on the outboard pad. The Toyota service...

Put HM 0w20 in power steering system

Truck and bus power steering uses whatever motor oil is used for the engine, usually 15W-40. The edge cases are Honda/Acura and Euro cars calling for Pentosin CHF or Mercedes ZH-M fluid. PSF seems to be 30W base stock and a good dose of ZDDP or an organosulfur compound in it.

    Finally building a new PC

Lian Li, brings back memories. I have a Power Mac G5 I want to stick a modern mATX motherboard and a AMD Ryzen 4 AM5 or an Intel Core Ultra 5 for laughs and giggles… someday. There’s a bit of work to get it done, the case conversion someone in the UK has a kit for. The PSU is a different story.

Several Dell Windows 11 cannot use wired Ethernet but can use WIFI

Are the laptops using a Dell WD19/22 USB-C/Thunderbolt dock by any chance? There was an issue with the Realtek USB GigE PHYs on those that was fixed with the latest firmware update. We had a few at work that wouldn’t connect until that was done.

    brake dust sticking to wheels

Yea, Euro dust is black and corrosive. Euro brakes also need to meet ECE90 homologation so things are a little more uniform. Japanese/Korean(all their brakes, as well as many of the Detroit 3 owes their existence to Akebono, while NBK/Nisshinbo has a JV with either Hyundai Mobis or HL Mando as...

    Scan tool to program key

I tried to use my ThinkCar to reprogram a fob on a 2016 Mustang, I hit a wall when it needed a code. I’m going to try FORScan but this might be something a locksmith or dealer tech with NASTF or IDS will need to do.

    Upgrading halogen to LED headlights

Stick to what lighting source was in there. If you want LED/HID do a “proper” projector retrofit or swap in OEM headlamps if they were offered. Aftermarket Amazon/eBay/Temu/Alibaba LEDs and some OEM installs(mainly trucks) blind others on the road due to glare.

Post your Gas Mileage : Calculated

    2009 Prius, average is 43.0mpg, I get anywhere from 38-51mpg a tank. 2019 Lexus RXh, average is 32.4mpg, I get 27-35mpg a tank.

GM now saying to use 0w40 in 21-24 6.2L

Only things I would run 8/16/20 in are Hondas or Toyotas, maybe Subarus(definitely during warranty). And even so, I notice they run a bit smoother and quieter on 5W-30 API/ILSAC oils.

    Scan tool to program key

Yea, it’s expecting two different hexadecimal values for each immobilizer pill/chip. Ilco/Kaba and XHorse/Autel all clone vs. write new values to a blank chip. I think Hillman is using Ilco’s cloneable chip system.

    Power washer pump lube?

I use 75W-90 GL-5 synthetic. There’s SuperTech in it right now.

Chinese EV Thoughts? Curious on more technical info

DOT is a bare minimum. It still needs to go through NHTSA crash testing. IIHS is voluntary. We already have Chinese EVs on the road here - it’s called a BYD bus. I rode in a few in LA. They’re odd but they move quick.

    Scan tool to program key

Box stores and Ace unless it’s an old school one use the same Hillman Axxess+ or Minute Key kiosk/machines.

    Scan tool to program key

If you use OEM scan tools, yes. If you use Chinese(Autel, ThinkCar, Topdon, XHorse), no NASTF needed in many cases if all you need is to replace keys - you’re just learning them into the immobilizer unit. XHorse has their service to generate security keys. The OEMs still believe in security by...
