    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

Ok, I'll check it out and give B&M tech a call also. Thanks! Hoping I don't have to change it since I snapped the 8678347 pin off while trying to carefully remove it. Nothing to grab onto. Should be a fun time if I have to remove it. I measured rear servo pin travel using this homemade tool...

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

Got it all buttoned up to the pump! Front end play is good! Getting there! Dumb question but do I have to get a shift lever shaft that is short to work with my aftermarket B&M pro ratchet or will the long shaft that is in there be fine?

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

LOL can any portion of this build go smoothly? First, the case saver I had didn't fit the HD snap ring, so I think it was for a TH400 or machined incorrectly. I filed it down so that the HD snap ring could at least be installed. This case saver also has a 2nd groove for the beveled ring. No...

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

The bearing in the output shaft was flipped as you correctly guessed, and upon checking the beveled snap ring after that I incorrectly assumed that the snap ring was supposed to get closer to the flat than what it was for correct fit. So the flipped bearing was the only issue. The snap ring...

So with the snap ring seated correctly and the sonnax no walk bushing installed backwards again and all the way in the case here's where I'm at: Checking rear end play in the case: Stacked from output shaft to center sup with no front planet installed with 0.010" shim under the rollerized...

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

I don’t know why i didn’t try this before..... with only these in the case: thin fret snap ring center support beveled snap ring it looks like it is seating correctly. It won’t seat correctly even with the entire front planet removed from the stack. The front planet wasn’t changed out, only...

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

With the thin snap ring (.042”) removed from where the bottom of the center support makes contact with, the beveled snap ring fits properly. So something in the stack is causing it to be a about .040” too high. When the thin snap ring is installed it is seated all the way down against the case.

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

Ok, so even with the output shaft bearing installed correctly, the center support is still sitting up what looks to be .020” too high, resulting in the snap ring not seating correctly. I verified that the output shaft is making contact with the bearing that rests on the no walk bushing. I can...

That appears to have been the issue. The bushing is seated but the **** bearing was flipped. You are a genius! Look how tore up the bushing is now...

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

It most likely wasn't. I looked at the bolt hole at that time for the center support and saw it lined up and didn't pay close attention to the detail on the snap ring. I'm sure the end play is all off and I have to start from scratch especially since I tapped that no walk bushing out a...

The center support seems to seat correctly in the front planet. I checked for burrs on the bushing in the front planet and it’s good.

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

I tapped the no walk bushing in a little more and the bushing can still center on it. I completely removed the bearing and shims off the no walk bushing to test fit the snap ring now. Even with a stock configuration put in from the output shaft to the center support, the snap ring still won’t go...

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

So I was able to feel how much play a stock configuration has using the .063 washer on the bottom of the center support and the 2 tang plastic washer on the rear planet. When setting it up with the bearing in the pocket, the shims under that bearing, and the removal of the 2 tang plastic washer...

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

Previously we saw a .035” shim gave no end play from reaction carrier to center support, but a .030” shim did give endplay. So there was some “range of negative endplay” there that was not measurable with a dial when the .030 shim was used. If the total rear end play measurement was taken with...

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

Hit another snag... the center support isn't going UNDER where the beveled snap ring (bevel side up) goes. I tried installing the snap ring but it won't seat all the way because the center support is sitting up to high. I rotated the shaft left and right but that's the lowest it will go. Also...

    4L80E rebuild for 1100hp questions

Well with both pump halves assembled, and using a .091 pump shim, .063 forward drum to forward hub washer, and a .010 shim (44255) under the forward drum bearing I get: .008 rear endplay .015 front endplay (taking the snap ring float into account) .005 center support to reaction carrier float...

Adding shim material here pushes the sealing rings into a very minimal surface...
