Bistein shocks and mileage getting up there

That is a good question. Personally I would be a bit put out if it wasn't dealt with right at the retailer level. The shocks I returned under warranty were not Bilstein but I must admit I would have expected the same over the counter exchange regardless of the brand.

Bistein shocks and mileage getting up there

My only experience with this was with shocks purchased from my local parts store. I kept the receipt etc. as I always do and when the time came to have the shocks replaced, I removed the shocks, went to the parts store, they replaced them on the spot, I returned home and installed the new...

Who in BITOG is a world traveler?

Iceland is definitely on the list, we are thinking of a standalone trip for there. West Jet, Canadian carrier, just started flights from Calgary (my hometown and still our travel gateway frequently) to Reykjavik for 2024. Icelandair goes to Toronto, also a hub for us. Enjoy the Maritimes.

Anyone eat at Costco on vacation?

Sure, if we happen to be there shopping while on a road trip. It certainly isn't "destination" cuisine for us on a road trip but if we are there, yeah no problem. I do like the hotdogs and $1.50 for a pop and a hotdog is also very fine.

    What's In Your Stash?

1 x M1 M1-251C -> 2017 Tacoma 1 x Wix 51143 -> 1967 Impala My stash is typically two per vehicle, when I am down to one like now, I start shopping and watching for sales. The Wix 51143 is never on sale and is rarely stocked, I order them from RA.

How many people still use paper maps?

Yes, we just used my State Farm Road Atlas on a 2 week trip through New England while "leaf peeping" last October. I don't have a US data plan and although I can download maps to use offline on my cell, I don't bother I just use old school maps while in America (and Europe when traveling there)...

    VP Filters?

It is a disposable drain tube supplied with the filter. You remove a plug at the bottom of the filter cartridge canister, screw this plastic drain piece in and then drain the entire canister prior to removing it. The drain tube pushes against a spring loaded check valve as you screw it in thus...

    Heat Pump Question

This is how things are with my heat pump as well, as far as I know it seems to just be that way. The number on the thermostat does not corelate to the actual room temperature. We just set it to where we are comfortable. In the winter we set the "number" to 70F this gives an average room...

    Plumbers putty vs modern sealants.

Interesting. Although the instructions in your case say to use silicone I have never used silicone in that application. I always use plumber's putty and have never had a problem. If you ever have to redo the job, like you are doing right now, putty is way easier to clean up in my opinion so I...

Do You Ever Keep Up With Your Old Car?

Generally not my daily drivers, except my last one, my 2006 GMC. I sold it to a friend, that is usually a forbidden transaction that I won't do, but he really wanted it and all my cars are mint typically and well maintained so I broke my rule and let him buy it. He sends me pictures once in a...

Spare in your trunk and a jack

Last time - I check the spare before long trips. It is trivial in the Impala (easy in the trunk) and a little more work on the Tacoma because I have to crawl underneath. Both were checked this past summer. Jack / tools - Yes for both. On trips in the Impala I pack my 1.5T aluminum floor jack...

    Driving At Night

Yes. I used to prefer night time driving (less traffic, cooler out) but we shut that down about 10 - 15 years ago and try to drive during daylight hours only now on big road trips. I don't mind in the city about local driving at night that is still fine but high speed highways are not my thing...

    Loose Lug Nuts

I have never had it happen personally. I do retorque after a fresh set of tires and / or rotation and have never had a loose lug nut discovered at that point either. I also check before big trips, just part of the pre-trip check out. Again, nothing discovered there either.

    Jiffy Lube Fluids

If it was completely flushed, fresh water flowing by the end, and then the Universal fluid put in I would be a little bit irritated if the expectation going in was OE fluid but I wouldn't bother changing it at this point. It will be fine however I would only top up going forward with the exact...

Do you have a favorite fuel?

Costco (I don't know who they get it from to be honest) is my usual brand. When I am travelling and Costco is not convenient, Shell is my next brand. I have not owned a diesel for 15 years but when I did, it was pretty much 100% Shell.
