Funny you should say that. Despite all the good UOA's that I've seen for MC 5w20 syn blend, it is certainly not one of my favorites when it comes to engine smoothness. I realize that "smoothness" is very subjective, but I've never really liked the MC stuff.

I don't think that. My sole reason for considering going to a heavier weight oil is to further reduce my start-up noise (again, going to 5w30 helped some). What is a good 5w20 with good "polarity"? What additives have you used/liked?

Ok, what do you guys think about Redline 5w20 or 5w30 for my application? I've been doing alot of research on this forum, and it appears that RL has an overall higher viscosity compared to other oils, yet is very MPG-friendly due to it's ester base... Thoughts??

For me, it's not that I'm concerned that 5w20 will cause "catastrophic engine failure". It's just that using 5w20 causes alot of start-up noise for me. I went to PP 5w30, and it quieted it some, but it still happens occasionally. I'm looking for suggestions on what oil may help it even more...

What about MAX's comment that 10w30's perform like 5w's or 0w's??? Is that not accurate?

Well I did both the Lubegard (red bottle), and I also added 1 package (2 ounces) of the Instant Shudder Fixx. I think that I under-dosed the Instant Shudder Fixx, as my tranny holds 14 qts of ATF. Anyway, I hope that cumutively, I didn't add too many additives that it reduces the torque load...

Well, yes AND no! I still have a startup rattle, but it's much more rare than it was before. Before, it would rattle just about every day on startup. Now maybe once a week... So it's definately affected by oil. I think next OCI I'm going to give 10w30 a try. It seems that the thicker the oil...

Well I have some preliminary good info... Startups over the past 2 days have been noise free! So far, not a hint of the startup rattle! Hopefully, the trend will continue.

I've heard alot of good things about Rotella 15w40... But isn't it too heavy of an oil to use in a newer Ford 3v modular motor?? What would be the noticeable difference between running the Rotella versus a 5w20 or 5w30?

It is a rattle sound. Not a knock... Also, I do not have the electronic climate control. Just the manual one. And the noise happens regardless of whether or not the climate control (a/c or heater) is on or off. So again, does anyone think that going with a different brand or weight of oil will...
