Slow acceleration - carb versus engine?

I went to look at a 1980 Tercel the other day. Having had them before, this one felt slower to accelerate/less power. One can't start pulling things apart when looking at a vehicle. So, is there a way to help differentiate whether something like this is more likely to be a carb/fuel issue, or a...

Minimum oil level to run? Oil change starting.

Yesterday I was changing out on a 1989 Toyota Van. I had it up on ramps. I added about 2-2.2 quarts. I didn't check the level as it was elevated at an angle. I then started it, and back off the ramps to level it on flat ground. The oil was all the way at the very bottom of the dipstick (i.e not...

7 year old Mobil 1 oil, looks fine, change?

Regarding changing the filter prior to driving it. Well, I already drove it home, well over an hour on the freeway . Is filter disintegration with synthetic media as much of an issue as with paper? I am sure it happens, just curious.

7 year old Mobil 1 oil, looks fine, change?

I normally agree with comments about not trusting what a seller says. But, in this case, I do. The Rampage came with several large boxes of parts, including a mostly used jug of Mobil 1 10-30 high mileage. The filter is Mobil 1. And, the seller was a nice older gentleman who clearly liked this...

    Removing rust stains from paint?

7 year old Mobil 1 oil, looks fine, change?

I drove it home, well over an hour on the freeway, and have driven it around town a bit, on the oil it has. I am intrigued by the UOA suggestions.

7 year old Mobil 1 oil, looks fine, change?

LOL. Part of the appeal in getting it was just how different and weird it is. I do wish mine had an original two-tone 80s paint job with all the decals. Originally Posted By: oil_film_movies Congrats on finding the ugliest car ever made! OK, maybe the Gremlin was uglier, not sure.... Its...

7 year old Mobil 1 oil, looks fine, change?

Photos, as requested. It's a 5 speed manual, cruise control, has AC (not working, but all components there, so hopefully just a charge). No power steering. The bucket seats are actually quite comfortable. It also has a 1980s era cargo cover that is easy to fully remove, and also locks down. The...

I haven't. I've never used a clay bar or polish. Maybe I should check some YouTube videos?

    Removing rust stains from paint?

I have a vehicle (older van) in which some rust near the bottom of the window has run down and stained the paint below it. It's not under the paint, just a stain. I've tried Goo Gone (I think that's what it's called), soap, and a few other around-the-house cleaners. No luck. Any thoughts?

7 year old Mobil 1 oil, looks fine, change?

I picked up a vehicle (1983 Dodge Rampage) that has Mobil 1 Oil from 7 years ago in it. The previous owner kept the vehicle in a garage, for the most part, and it wasn't driven much in that time. The oil is still clean and golden-looking. Filter is also Mobil 1. He says it's fine. What say you...

Oil from 2014 with 450 miles? Change?

I just picked up a new vehicle. It's a 1986 Camry with 96k miles (3 speed automatic). It's been garaged for the better part of the past few years. The oil was last changed in Sep of 2014 using a 10w-30 (76, synthetic-blend), and just a basic filter. The car has about 450 miles on it since then...

Any reason to use 10w-30 over 5w-30? (modern oils)

Thank you gentleman, and any ladies, for all the information. I do apologize for asking something that has likely been asked many times in one form or another. Sometimes we want to phrase/ask something in our own particular way, but I am understanding of how the same basic questions repeated can...

Any reason to use 10w-30 over 5w-30? (modern oils)

I have two vehicles from the 1990s. Both owners manual spec for default 10w-30, with 5w-30 for below freezing (but not for use when warm out). I've done some reading here, and I understand that the greater the gap in the two numbers, the more additives are needed to maintain the spread (my...
