2026 Ram 1500: The Hemi is back in business

I don't think they need to add more power to it, it has good power for its size. But the lack of investment into improving the base engine design is showing. Like it needs mid-grade and two spark plugs, to produce its rated power. That lead me to believe the speed of combustion happening the...

2026 Ram 1500: The Hemi is back in business

Without any updating to it… if they had done any updates to it, I see bringing it back. But with zero updates, it seems like a dead man walking to me.

    Pennzoil - Low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) Q&A

We know that oil is a contributing factor to LSPI events, but how much does oil actually influence these events compared engine design/calibration choices? Is oil the main contributing factor? Or can engine design choices on the small turbo charged engine like piston design/ring pack design be...

    2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5S 36.3k mi; Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 9.8k mi

I have never been one to criticize an oil's add-pack with a consumer level oil analysis as I think there is more to it than can be capture in it. I have also just looked for well known oil specification like GM's Dexos label and not overthink it from that point. But the oil seems to have held up...

Interesting comparison between LEV and EV

I think you have to take any answer like this out of an AI chatbot with a hefty amount of skepticism and verify with traditional sources and studies. They are a complete black box with how they came up with their conclusion. But most studies I have seen and read come to the opposite...

It was as simple as Pennzoil Platinum was cheaper than Mobil 1 at the time.

    2025 LSY oil consumption

I would get it checked out, I think GM's acceptable amount of oil consumption is 1qt per 2000 miles. The engine might still be breaking-in and oil consumption will reduce with time. But I would at least get the dealer to perform an oil consumption test to verify but they might not wanna do it if...

Interesting fluid temp observations on our ‘24 Carnival

Excellent information, as @Jetronic said, I wouldn't be surprised if it was displaying the calculated engine oil temp. I know on my Mazda, which has an actual oil temp sensor and a calculated value, there can be a larger gap than I would anticipate between the calculated oil temp vs actual oil temp.

    Mazda - 1WPE-14-302 C&P 9.8k mi

Same filter went on and Pennzoil Platinum was what was run for this filter and its also what went in.

    Mazda - 1WPE-14-302 C&P 9.8k mi

This is the filter off my 2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5S. It was in use from July 24th, 2024 to April 23rd, 2025 and for 9831mi and 312 engine hours. Overall the filter construction is consistent with previous C&P of this filter and is very well built. Carbon deposits in the filter appear to be minimal...

    2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5S 36.3k mi; Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 9.8k mi

I guess my counter point would be, why not? I’m following the recommended maintenance per Mazda. They would have had to validated their recommended maintenance intervals. And with my current driving situation, the oil appears to have held up fine following the maintenance minder. I guess my...

    2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5S 36.3k mi; Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 9.8k mi

From everything I have seen, there are two separate modes for the Mazda maintenance minder. In “automatic” mode it has a PCM input in addition to mileage and time. With that PCM input, my understanding is, it will adjust the maintenance interval as needed. But it also has a “manual” mode if you...

    2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5S 36.3k mi; Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 9.8k mi

I don’t think the OEM recommended oil change interval is extended. If I was going further than the 10k Mazda specifies for the standard drain interval I would lean more towards agreeing with you. But I would not consider following the standard drain interval an extended interval.

The engine still looks spotless currently on the inside. Haven’t had any noticeable oil consumption, except for what I’m assuming is leaking currently ie the oil level didn’t move until . The Skyactiv N/A engines aren’t know for having oil consumption issues and are generally easy on oil.

I wasn't overly concern with the issues that might crop up at higher mileages with Mazda's typically good overall reliability. I always figured, with the power of the internet, I could figure out most issues that might crop up and if needed take it to a local shop to be fixed.

They definitely offered me all sorts of stuff in the finance office when I was buying the car. But I turned it all down. I figured I most likely wouldn’t need it and if I wanted one later I could just buy it outright instead of adding it into the financing of the vehicle.

The powertrain warranty is 5yr/60k. My dealership has treated me pretty well so far, so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be covered. But the dealership and Mazda would have an upset customer if it isn't covered.

When I say trip in this context, it means for each engine start it drove 7.7mi on average. To get my average trip distance I divided the OCI mileage by the number of engine starts. Which is the math you are showing. The leak should be fixed under the powertrain warranty. My appt at the dealer...

    2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5S 36.3k mi; Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 9.8k mi

Luckily the ECU documents the number of engine starts, so I just note it down at each oil change. The CX-50 does not have stop-start so that won't affect that number, but it does have cylinder deactivation. I do live in the suburbs of around Pittsburgh, so it's definitely a mix of driving, some...

Just received the latest UOA for my Mazda CX-50 2.5S, the naturally aspirated 2.5L Skyactiv engine. The oil used was Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 with a Mazda 1WPE-14-302 filter. It was replaced with the same. This oil was in use from July 24th, 2024 to April 23rd, 2025. During that time it was...
