    Manual transmission weird shifting technique

I've been driving many cars with tired synchro rings over the years and i quite enjoy how smoother the shifts are when double clutching some of them. With some transmissions it is also possible to float gears but most automotive synchronized transmission really don't like that punishment. I have...

Any reason to choose 5W over 0W oil?

I'd be more concerned about road salt than oil.

Best oil for cleaning and stopping blow-by

Just the old cap dance test. I know, it's just observation and i don't have numbers to back it up.

Best oil for cleaning and stopping blow-by

I am going to remove the CCV next week while everything is apart (valve cover & intake plenum gaskets). Did an oil change two days ago, flushed the engine for 15 min with a liter of diesel, put 7 liters of fresh 15W40 in and a new filter and there's less blow-by now. Still some but 100% sure...

    Post your latest HDEO change

Best oil for cleaning and stopping blow-by

I was under the impression that E7 would have the strongest add pack. Is switching to a HDEO worth it compared to usual PCMO? For info, what i mean by PCMO is an A3/B4 oil.

Best oil for cleaning and stopping blow-by

I would gladly test that product but it's not available in europe. First thing i did when i got the car was to remove and plug the vacuum line to the EGR. I can find that easily but why E6 specifically ? Not yet, probably won't happen since i'm too lazy to do that. 😅

Best oil for cleaning and stopping blow-by

Not yet, i have to replace a bunch of gaskets and will try it at the same time. Blow-by should be caused by cylinder bores and compression rings not sealing properly if i'm not mistaken. The fact this engine doesn't burn oil but has blowby makes me think that liners and oil control rings are ok...

Best oil for cleaning and stopping blow-by

Update: I did 3000 km with the car so far. Blowby is still the same but oil level is still exactly where it was when i did the oil change. Still pulls hard, doesn't smoke and starts perfectly!

Oil for an old Mercedes manual tranny

Mmh... It's not too bad, i just have to shift into 3rd really slow when hot or double clutch it to make it smoother. All other gears are very good. Honestly i can live with it for now and play with oil a bit.

Oil for an old Mercedes manual tranny

After driving the car for 1500 km since my last post, It has consistently been the opposite of what i said earlier. Shifting into 3rd actually gets worse after a bit of driving when everything is up to operating temp. It really seems smoother when cold. Hot, it will always make a clunky sound no...

Oil for an old Mercedes manual tranny

Drove the car today and the 75W80 i have in there right now doesn't solve anything and even seems to make shifts a bit rough for the first minutes of driving when cold. At least i feel like the fluid is more suited to the transmission than ATF in term of AW and EP additives. Maybe i could try...

Oil for an old Mercedes manual tranny

I will for sure! It's available here, about 27€ for a quart, which isn't cheap.

Oil for an old Mercedes manual tranny

Hi everyone. Couldn't help it, bought another old diesel Benz recently. The car is a 1997 C250 Turbodiesel that has done 370k km. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd is quite notchy and makes the bad flex disc clunk quite hard (still have to replace that). I think i have a worn 3rd synchro ring since all...

0w20 vs 5w20 in hot weather

This, mate. And yes, two jugs because you need twice the protection if it gets too hot.

Best oil for cleaning and stopping blow-by

Sure, but from experience i've witnessed reduced blow-by on old MB diesels after a few years of short OCIs and lots of freeway driving. I think this car wasn't neglected or abused because it has very little issues other than the headliner. On the W202 the recommended OCI was 15k km, it looks...

Best oil for cleaning and stopping blow-by

Hi everyone, recently bought another MB diesel, a 97 W202 C250 Turbodiesel this time, with the OM605 turbocharged engine. It has 370k km (about 230k miles). It has quite a bit of blow-by, the cap isn't really dancing but it looks and sounds like it would fill up a plastic bag in no time. I...
