Did you drive it and find the ride terrible or just looking at reader opinion on TireRack?
Did you try lower level Elantra with 16” wheels to see if more pleasant a ride ? If not comfortable tires will never matter.
My nieces boyfriend has a light overland Tacoma. It barely makes it way off-road. My 19 year old daughter has done more extreme off-roading with our 2015 Pilot following Apple Maps.
I think paint of those Made in Alabama junk heaps in that vintage was so so. My neighbor’s looked rough, his twin girls added lots of stickers to cover the spots all over.
I have learned by owning one if you anticipate moving , slightly move your foot on the brake and engine starts. Same is true for steering input.

What else is on the market that offers incredible off road capability and that specific look / function and open air driving ? Nothing….. Ford Bronco tried but is recent .

It’s best to skip third party warranty’s . The only ones worth buying are offered and backed by car car makers. Everything else is small to massive scam at best.
The engines that last 1 million miles are not city driven. They have driven exclusively highway.
It likely will last 5 years with a repair(s). I would expect that of any 20+ year old car.
It mostly depends on local water chemistry and what you are willing to spend. They make quality water heaters if you are willing to spend on them. They likely are not off the shelf Home Depot unfortunately.
