Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

I don't understand aviation, but your wrong about industrial - everything that moves has feedback on it, and if a person can be injured it must be SIL rated. What we found years ago is the controller logs would tell the story but the operator would claim they told the machine to do something...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

Thats not true, I am talking about financial services sector (part of GDP - like 20% - financing, insurance, etc) not capital appreciation of publicly traded companies (not part of GDP or productivity). So your mixing metaphors. Yes, like I said I agreed that our productivity has become...

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

Video has long been used in manufacturing process control to correlate what is actually done at the control panel. They typically do not show the operator at all just their hand adjusting settings and controls - thats it. It does two things - understand what the operator is doing right or...

    Supertech filters discontinued?

Walmart oil filters seem to be strangely stocked by region. Here the MP went away a year ago. Last I looked which admittedly was a month ago they had a handful of the ST's left, which is basically a $1 luber finer walmart sells for $4. I have yet to see the new Purolator here either - still...

    Aftermarket Air Mass Meters

Why do you think your new aftermarket MAF sensor is not working? Any discussion of MAF sensors or engine closed loop control in general needs to start with MAF sensor reading at idle and LTFT under a constant load - like driving 30mph down a long street. If you can log MAF volume x LTFT x rpm...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

You need to be a little bit careful on this calculation, simply because its in USD's so its calculating the changes in currency as well as the change in GDP. A house in Germany doesn't go up 20% in euro simply because the Euro is down 20% in dollar terms from a year ago. However some things...

Oil changing questions I should have known by now but don't

    1) If your not having to top off between changes I would not worry about oil consumption. I more or less know by how much comes out. On my Nissan's 5.5 quarts go in, more then 5 quarts come out. Close enough. If you have an oil burner keep track of how much you top up between changes. 2)...

All these other coins make no sense to me. At least Bitcoin has some transparency and is scarce. When you can make a meme coin out of thin air your really just trading Tulip bulbs that won't grow. IMHO. But again, what do I know. How about Fartcoin? Yes its a real coin - before you all hit...

    Supertech filters discontinued?

Auto OEM's don't make filters. Motocraft are M&H or were. Champion used to make the AC Delco. Maybe someone here knows if still? Mopar is also M&H - or used to be. If you believe somehow they pay closer attention to the OEM ones I suppose. Up to you. I'll pass.

    Supertech filters discontinued?

I agree completely and bought WIX North Carolina made filters exclusively for decades. Unfortunately the USA made ones no longer seem to meet any minimum standards of quality control, yet the Chinese and Vietnamese made ones are impeccable. 🤷‍♂️ If you want USA made I think many have gone to...

    AN 124 escape from Kyiv

Good. If you haven't seen the footage of the drone attacks deep in Russia, its worth a watch. Just search "ukraine drone attack on russian planes" or anything like that and lots of videos will pop up. Given they destroyed the Antonov AN-225 - the largest plane ever flown, I call it karma...

    Supertech filters discontinued?

Pretty much I think. The MP's went away a year ago - equivalent to the Champ XL. A couple showed up here with manufacturing defects anyway so no loss really - I did use them back in the day. I have one left I will likely toss. Move on to some variant of Premium Guard. All things First...

    Toyota ... warped rotors

I have owned exactly 1 Toyota. Its in my signature - 6 years, only 46K miles, most of it my wife's commute. The brakes are still silky smooth. Maybe its all that driving on the shoulder during rush hour you Bostonites find acceptable. Do they still allow that?

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

the CAFE footprint formula is at least part of it. How much gas you can burn is based partially on the footprint - or the track x the wheelbase. The bigger the car - the more CAFE allowance. The safety mandates are another part. Lots of companies make small cars for off-shore markets - but...

Not only did they have the pandemic money in 2021 / 22 - they were also very close to the peak number of retirees. Due purely to demographics - I believe 2024 will end up being the peak ever retiree's. There just aren't enough people under 65 now to ever catch up. So everything retirement -...

I bought AMZN, GOOG and QQQ somewhere near the bottom of the second April pullback. Well it didn't seem like the bottom at the time - was already way back up. But it looks really good now. I think its people trying to get out of the dollar and into real assets - of which there are not too...

I agree that Ford has some really good engine tech. That is why Toyota agreed to swap their hybrid research, undipsutedly the best at the time, for Ford's engine research. Unfortunately Ford is plagued by the thing that has always plagued Ford - QC and other cheeping out - like refusing to...
