What should I service this 10L80 at?

Service it ASAP. Change the fluid now. And do it every 30k miles or sooner. The ford 10 speeds and GM 10 speeds are almost identical. There are a few differences, but mainly it’s the tuning. A lot of parts are very very similar, and a lot of parts are actually identical, especially on the 80...

what signals a need to change ATF?

Changing the fluid and filter every 30k miles for any automatic transmission will ensure you get the most life out of it. If you’re towing, check the transmission fluid every 5k miles, and make sure it doesn’t smell funny. If it starts to smell slightly burnt or acidic, just change the fluid...

Valvoline Maxlife ATF, the best for all applications?

Was thinking about this for a while, but I am just now posting this. Is Valvoline Maxlife ATF really the best option for all makes and models? Are all ATF specs actually almost identical and similar enough for the Valvoline Maxlife ATF to work in literally all applications and transmissions...

    Best oil leak stop products?

I’ve used high mileage Mobil 1 before, and it didn’t do anything for me. Would Maxlife be a better choice?

    Best oil leak stop products?

Got a 4.3 vortec that is leaking some oil. It’s been leaking oil since I bought it 2 years ago, and the oil leak has not gotten any worse. I do 3k mile oil changes and I do not notice any oil level dropping on the dipstick, so it’s not a severe oil leak. The timing cover seal seems to be...

Getting ready to install a corvette servo and a tru cool 40k cooler on my 4L60E

A little update…. Don’t want to turn this into a maintenance thread, but hear me out. I decided not to do the corvette servo upgrade, because on my 2001 Blazer (which is very tightly packaged due to the truck being small) there is literally no room to get the snap ring off of the servo cover...

    Castrol EDGE does it all...

So, with Castrol saying 25k miles guaranteed with an asterix at the end, on the back of the bottle it states: “if your vehicle is under warranty or if driving in severe service applications, follow the oil change interval recommended by your manufacturer. Examples of severe service...

Getting ready to install a corvette servo and a tru cool 40k cooler on my 4L60E

There are many on eBay and Amazon for under $50. It’s easy to swap out. Just gotta make sure to put the clip in correctly for the cover, because some people don’t and they destroy the transmission by losing fluid.

Getting ready to install a corvette servo and a tru cool 40k cooler on my 4L60E

I got a 2001 Chevy Blazer 4x4 with the 4L60E. The truck has 112k original miles. I did a transmission flush and filter change about a year ago, and the transmission shifts and works awesome. I also sucked out 5 quarts of fluid and fill it back up with new fluid. No issues, it shifts and works...

49k miles trans fluid exchange on a GM 10L80

Change the fluid at least every 30k miles on any GM 10L or Ford 10R transmissions. These all have issues with the cheaply made valve bodies. Any dirt or fluid contamination will ruin the solenoid bores, and cause fluid pressure loss, which will result in loss of gears and further damage to the...

Oil Change Intervals 3k vs Longer with full synthetic

5k miles or 1 year, which ever comes first is fine with modern engine oils. But I still do 3k mile oil changes because I’m crazy.

    GM aborting move to 0w-40

Thickies had a good 4 day long party. Thickies finally felt that their point of “thicker is better” was finally followed by one of the domestic big three’s that are heavily monitored and controlled by our favorite gov agency, the EPA. It probably felt very empowering. But all jokes aside...

    Silverado 4l60e temp

My 2001 Blazer with the 4l60e runs about 195F when fully up-to operating temp. I’ve checked the temp through a scan tool live data. My trucks cooling system runs about 198F when fully warmed up, because I have a Hayden severe duty fan clutch, but if it had a normal duty fan clutch it should...

    BG Products Trans Fluid

I work at a ford dealer, and BG products are officially used at Ford dealers, and other dealers too I’m sure. Even some motorcraft branded chemicals like the PM-44A, which is called Motorcraft 44k fuel system cleaner is made by BG and is the exact same thing as the BG44k. Ford dealers have BG...

Power Steering Fluid changing colour quickly and PS flush products

I use automatic transmission fluid in my power steering. ATF turns dark red after some heat cycles. It’s normal. I don’t see any metal, and the fluid doesn’t smell burnt at all.

No. It’s been sitting outside of my work warehouse. It’s not mine.

    Protection from rodents 🐿🐁🛡🗡

This is the only reason why I like having cats living around my neighborhood in the storm drains. They get all the rodents and keep my car safe. Squirrels are too scared to just walk around my driveway because of cats everywhere. These cats are not very friendly, but I like them.

Power Steering Fluid changing colour quickly and PS flush products

I’ve noticed this too on my 2001 Blazer with the 4.3 vortec. I flushed the power steering fluid one time, and exchanged all of it with brand new atf. The fluid turned dark after a couple days of driving. This could be just the atf turning darker (which is normal with heat exposure), or it...

packaged rotors - rust during storage?

This is a brand new ford motorcraft rotor with anti rust coating that has been sitting outside getting rained on and exposed to the sun for about 2 months. If this rotor was stored in its original box and was stored indoors, it would not rust like this at all.
