    Full synthetic or EP?

If I were you, I would go with Valvoline EP for it's triple digit molybdenum, and just change the oil every 5k miles. You shouldn't be doing extended drain intervals on Ecoboost engines. Just do it every 5k miles, that's the best for Ecoboost engines. Ecoboosts are tough on oil (this is not...

    Valvoline Extended Protection 5w30 VOA

Might have to try the Valvoline EP 0w20 on the next oil change. Additive pack looks real solid, absolutely love the molybdenum content. Some people say the "base oil" isnt too good in Valvoline oils, but for $22 at Walmart, you can't beat it.

    Oil Change Interval Chart

Just get any synthetic oil you want at Walmart. Dump it into your motor. Drive with it for 5k miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Then dump it out. And call it a day 🤷‍♂️ That's the best interval for most small GDI and TGDI engines, which is what majority of us drive nowadays.

    2015 Lincoln MKS 3.5 Ecoboost

Yeah I got lucky. If I didn't check the oil that day in that moment, I could have had major issues the next day on my way to work. If I was stuck in traffic for any minute longer, who knows how much coolant could have gotten into the oil. It's a terrible design and I hate car companys that...

    2015 Lincoln MKS 3.5 Ecoboost

I'm a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO owner, which the Taurus is basically the exact same as MKS. I have the 3.5 Ecoboost, and my water pump failed at around 85k miles/ 12 years. One day, about 1 year ago, I was checking my engine oil when I arrived home after a 30-40 minute drive just like I always do...

    Mobil 1: Odd Recommendation

Lol "great attitude." Who's the one arguing about 0w and 5w? Both will work, and it's perfectly reasonable. I don't want to start an argument, 0w20 or 5w20 is both reasonable to use. Anyhow, 0w20 will work for Gene K. I'm not arguing whether 5w20 or 0w20 is better. Both is perfectly reasonable...

Why do you frequently change brands of oil?

I like to switch oil brands just because I like to try different oils and see how they differ. Many people like to say "oil is oil", and I do agree with that. As long as you use good oil and keep the oci's reasonable, the engine will be protected. But, there are subtle differences you can...

Post a picture of your oil fill hole

Looking great! Some random people will try to tell you "your oci is too short", "you're wasting money", etc... Don't care about what they have to say. Because they can stick to their extended oci's, and you can stick to your own oci. It's your car, and you're taking great care of it. Keep...

    Mobil 1: Odd Recommendation

When I said "they" I was referring to the group of people Overkill was talking about, not Honda. This is what Overkill said: "Do you ever read the replies people make to you on this?" When I said they, I was referring to the "people" in Overkills sentence.

    Mobil 1: Odd Recommendation

Lol, they can say whatever they want and I don't care. 0w20 will work for Gene K. 0w20 is better than 5w20. It's nothing worth losing sleep over.

    Mobil 1: Odd Recommendation

You can safely use 0w20. 0w20 is better than 5w20 when the engine is cold because it flows quicker when you start the engine.

When and how have you personally deviated from the car owners manual

I use 0w20 in my 2010 Ford Taurus SHO with the 3.5 Ecoboost Twin Turbo V6. My engine for the 2010 model year was and still is recommended by Ford to use 5w20. Starting 2011, Ford stated recommending 5w30 for ALL 3.5 Ecoboost engines. Ford never disclosed why they changed the viscosity from...

Will diesel oil offer BETTER protection on GDI engine?

I wouldn't use diesel spec oil on your car. I'm not saying don't use diesel oil because it can cause catalytic converter issues, but because it won't offer better protection. Just use quality synthetic gasoline engine oil, and use the recommended viscosity. What I would do on your car is use...

Who's right? (or closer to right): Oil specification for my old Fiat Abarth, 5w40 or my new Honda SI, 0w20?

Yep, my buddy has a 2018 Miata 6 speed manual. It's an absolute blast to drive, and gets amazing fuel economy. Literally costs him $20 every other week to fill up at the gas station. It's a smart daily driver to own, except you can't fit anything in the small trunk it has.

My first try at using 0w oil....

If I were you, I would just use 0w20 year round. 0w20 is great for winter, because 0w is great for cold engines. 20 is good for the summer, because it will flow fast when hot. 0w20 flows quicker when cold and hot, compared to 5w20 and 5w30. More flow means better wear protection. Using 0w20...

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

Just bought some Royal Purple 0w20 High Performance Motor oil for my 2010 Ford Taurus SHO with the 3.5 Ecoboost twin turbo engine. First time using RP. Also got some K&N synthetic filter just to try it out. Engine seems to like RP, but there is much less cold start engine noise on startup with...

Who's right? (or closer to right): Oil specification for my old Fiat Abarth, 5w40 or my new Honda SI, 0w20?

There are plenty of engines out there that has 300k miles even after it has been using 5w20 and 0w20 it's whole life. Oil analysis' aren't very accurate, but there is no universal proof that using 0w20 increases wear. I have a 2010 Ford Taurus Sho with the 3.5 Ecoboost twin turbo V6. I've...

Who's right? (or closer to right): Oil specification for my old Fiat Abarth, 5w40 or my new Honda SI, 0w20?

What gregk24 is saying basically sums up all these "thick vs thin" discussions that people have been having for decades and decades. People act like using 0w20 on an engine that can run great on 0w20 will destroy the motor. Guys, calm down and just use 0w20 if that's what your manual says to...

Who's right? (or closer to right): Oil specification for my old Fiat Abarth, 5w40 or my new Honda SI, 0w20?

Just use 0w20 in your Honda. Many people freak out when a manufacturer recommends 0w20, but there is no need to freak out. Only people in forums that actually know absolutely nothing about how oil viscosity really works in an engine complain and whine about manufacturers recommending thin oils...

Honda oil spec in the US vs everywhere else

Yeah, it's nonsense. Every single engine that uses 0w20 blows up after about 50k miles. .... I hope no one took this seriously. Thinner oils are better for all engines.
