GDI Engine Owners - What Oil ?

Do you ever run an intake cleaner (e.g. CRC) in any of your GDI vehicles?

How cold is "very cold"? Below -20C?

    5W20 Under 45 Degrees F. ?

    What is pumpability a function of? I'm assuming viscosity is definitely a variable. When we look at say M1 5W-20: Pour Point: -45 °C KV@ 40 °C: 46.3 M1 ESP 5W-30: Pour Point: -42 °C KV@ 40 °C: 67.1 M1 0W-40 FS: Pour Point: -42 °C KV@ 40 °C: 78.3 So here we see that 5W-20 has the lowest pour...

M1 5W30 vs Valvoline Advanced Wear Protection ?

Genuine question, how bad is soot in oil given that diesel engines produce a lot of soot which ends up in the oil (if I'm not mistaken)? On a side note, it seems that the ESP line of M1 is also spec'd for diesel engines, so maybe there's something there.

    Penzoil Euro 0W-30 LX

Would that be a concern for DI engines and intake deposits?

    Penzoil Euro 0W-30 LX

I'm curious why the Penzoil Euro L/LX 0/5W-30 are "only" SN not SP. Not to mention that 0W-30 seems to meet more specs than 5W-30, but the latter meets BMW LL-04.

help me pick a HPL Oil

Very cool! Are you able to share some of his insights into why he said to go with the PCMO 5W-40 instead of the 5W-30 No VII?

    Mobil 1 0W-40 Supercar vs Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP

I thought SN+ was for LSPI, and SP was for timing chain (I might be mistaken though). That being said, according to the following two VOA posts for ESP 5W-30 and ESP 0W-40, they both seem to have similar levels of Ca and Mg. I don't know if the P + Zn levels are within measurement tolerance...

    Mobil 1 0W-40 Supercar vs Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP

That's ~3.3% and ~1.0% respectively. Is that really significant (genuine question)? I was looking at the Lubrizol comparison tool, and while they are different specs, we can see what they require: ESP 5W-30 and ESP X3 0W-40 both meet MB 229.52, so I put it in the middle. ESP 5W-30 meets the...

    Mobil 1 0W-40 Supercar vs Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP

Interesting. I thought the main point of the ESP line was low/mid SAPS.

    Mobil 1 0W-40 Supercar vs Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP

Does anyone have any insight into why the ESP 0W-40 X3 is "only" API SN+, but not API SP? Especially since the ESP 5W-30 is API SP.

    D1G3 to ???

How does MB 229.51/52 compare to API SP as far as timing chain wear? I saw at least one oil that was MB 229.51 but "only" API SN/SN+.

    5W30 In ‘20 Corolla 1.8L ?

How cold is cold? From my understanding, especially in GDI engines, cold weather leads to more fuel dilution, meaning the oil will likely drop one grade. Not to mention that thicker oil heats up quicker.

Conclusions on Ecoboost Engine Oil - Gas Turbo Direct Injection

Do these "foreign substances" show up in UOA? I hear that GDI engines produce a lot of soot which ends up in the oil for example.

Conclusions on Ecoboost Engine Oil - Gas Turbo Direct Injection

I meant as opposed to going up a grade (or even mixing with a higher grade to increase viscosity).
