Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

I'm just trying to figure out which filter to install on my Expedition. Without any further information, it looks to me that the most likely explanation is that the Boss was updated with more efficient media 1-3 years ago, but that the M+H headquarters is still passing out outdated spec sheets...

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

But the credibility of the Purolator USA web page claims is supported by the 1-year-old BR test results, but obviously not by the almost 4-year-old Ascend results or the who-knows-how-old measurements on the H+M GMBH Germany spec sheets. It's an unsolved mystery ...

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

Wouldn't the pressure relief valve prevent soil starvation? And how can you tell on the photo which louvers are closed, which are plugged up, which have a shadow on them from the other side, and which have slits that we cannot see through due to orientation?

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

There seems to be a big argument on this forum about which efficiency results are correct for the Purolator Boss. It seems to me that it is most likely that all of the results are correct. They actually do not contradict each other. The fallacy is to believe that any of them state the efficiency...

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

Aren't these filter media made up of translucent strands? If so, by definition, light goes through them. So, light spots in these photos have nothing to do with their ability to block particles.

How did engines clean oil before oil filters?

I had an Atomic 4 engine in my 1976 sailboat (which I bought in 1982) that had no filters whatsoever. I added a water separating gas filter, but never an oil or air filter. I think that the engine was a pre-war design, raw water cooled with a flat head and an updraft carburetor. The manual...

Runflat tires on cars that didn' come with run flats

When I replaced my OE Goodyear run-flats with Continental run-flats on my BMW last year, I had the tech throw the best old tire in the trunk. A few months ago, we were returning from a day trip on a two-lane country highway over 50 miles from our home when we heard a loud bang, followed by a...

Runflat tires on cars that didn' come with run flats

I have runflats on my BMW, and I think they are much safer than non-runflats and do not have any downsides that I care about. I did have a blowout with them, and it resulted in a much safer situation all around. I wish I could put runflats on my Expedition. But runflat wheels are made...

    Michelin tire ratings

Michelin's explanation would be believable if they were actually getting better anti-lock test results with their B UTQG traction rated tires than their competitors get with their A rated tires. But at least with their Defender LTX M/S 2 tires they are not. In tests reported by Tire Rack and...

How old is too old for tires?

I won first place in a car show when I told the judges that everything on my 30-year-old car was original including the tires. They were Michelin MXMs and still performed well at any speed despite their age.

    Continental Terraincontact H/T 285/45R-22, 500km review

I am wondering if other things may be playing a part in negative reactions to the symbol, such as After over 20 years of experience to 3PMSF "All weather" tires, the consumer may associate the symbol mostly with tires that have poor duration, poor wet performance, and more noise in contrast to...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

Two possibilities: They may have filed it under a different corporate identity such as a subsidiary or their parent company. They may have decided to protect is as a trade secret, thereby avoiding telling their competitors exactly what it is. Or they may want to protect it for more than 20...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

So, it looks like I did not find the right patents for this product.
