Thinking of getting a larger hard drive for my desktop

For critical data like this, I would urge you to consider keeping at least (3) copies of it: - a copy on your daily driver computer - a copy on an external drive that is almost always left disconnected from the computer and AC (excepting when you plug it in to use it to back up your critical...

    Facebook comments

It's happening to me as well. I'd wager this is some sort of phased UI experiment; one that does not appear to be going over well with desktop users. If you use m.facebook.com it won't happen, but you'll be left with an ugly UI.

Thinking of getting a larger hard drive for my desktop

And those are just the people who still think it's worth it to bother trying to explain to someone how **extremely** unwise it is to use an unsupported OS. Most of us realize there isn't much point when someone whose complete lack of acuity is met with a total attachment to their baseless...

Why is a website down on one browser but working in another?

Guess: DNS. Possibly Chrome is using a DNS server different from your other browsers and a recent change has not yet propagated to the DNS server that Chrome is using.

    Telegram app

Telegram, like WhatsApp, Signal, Facebook Messenger or Google Chat is perfectly legitimate. The things that people say and do using these platforms is up to the people themselves and may be less legitimate. Am I correct in understanding this? You commented on a YouTube video and then someone...

    Crome to W10?

You cannot install Windows on a Chromebook. You can install Linux, but I'd rather know: How is it that your Chromebook is "not playing nice" with your Win11 machine? My wager is that you have a solvable problem on your hands that does not require you to buy more consumer products.

Any suggestions for photo editing software that removes objects?

Photoshop is the gold standard. GIMP is a workable F/LOSS alternative. PIXLR might be a workable free, online platform - https://pixlr.com/e/

    Python on Android Tablet

So you don't just need a runtime, you need an IDE? I think Pydroid 3 might be your move: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.iiec.pydroid3&hl=en_CA&gl=US&pli=1

Is USAA selling my information, including my car VINs and personal email address?

This just popped up, pertinent to DMV's in the U.S. selling your data: https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a32035408/dmv-selling-driver-data/

    RIP Franco Harris.

The 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception is upcoming; and I cannot help but think that the Raiders-Steelers game being scheduled when it is was not accidental. Apparently the Steelers wanted to commemorate the play; and now it'll be at least as much as memorial for Franco Harris.

New type of spam showing up?

My guess is that it's an A/B/C test to see which of those variants gets better responses from recipients and which might better evade spam filters.

Android 6- Launcher3 stopped- error message

If all you need to do is retrieve some data from the device, I wonder if you could connect it via its USB cable to a desktop computer and access its filesystem from there. I would also 100% try booting that thing in Safe Mode: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht104358

Facebook Marketplace Messages are always in slow motion

That's not a fix, that is simply avoiding the problem; or at least this manifestation of it. If it is a configuration, plugin or due to some vulnerability or lack of capability from EOL software, then this will rear its ugly head elsewhere at some other time.

Facebook Marketplace Messages are always in slow motion

I am a Linux guy and updates work a little differently. I observe a small icon in the upper right area of my wife's Chrome on Win10 that indicates an update is available; but I am not sure about to what degree it auto-updates without the user's explicit consent. But there is no way in the world...

Facebook Marketplace Messages are always in slow motion

This thread got kinda sidetracked by all of the lectures you've been smothered with about using EOL software. Facebook and others of this ilk have extraordinarily sophisticated method and mechanisms to track and learn you so your data better describes you, which makes that data more valuable to...

Facebook Marketplace Messages are always in slow motion

On software, EOL means end of life. That means that even if security vulnerabilities are found, no one is going to provision resources, human or otherwise, to issuing fixes. That is a far cry from not being able to find parts for an automobile, although parallels exist when people do drive...

Facebook Marketplace Messages are always in slow motion

When we talk about an end-of-life piece of software being a danger, it is not about your privacy, necessarily. These companies legally and overtly collect data about you and your browsing habits and use it to market to you more effectively. They do not depend on outdated software nor security...

Facebook Marketplace Messages are always in slow motion

That would be very, very helpful! Trying to perform the same action using different machines, different browsers and even disabling the variety of plugins you may have on those browsers could help quite a bit. With each iteration of a variance of approach we will be able to rule something else out.

Brother, here is what we're looking at right now: You: Hey, BITOG'ers, I have a 1980 Ford F250 that's slip-sliding all over the road now that winter is upon me. What is my municipality or state doing wrong with these roads? BITOG: I am not sure it is the fault of the roads. How old are your...

Facebook Marketplace Messages are always in slow motion

Using more RAM ought to speed up an application, not slow it down. But what an application needs and how those resources are provisioned to it by the kernel can get very complex very quickly. Edge and Chrome are both 99% Chromium; so the differences in function and performance will likely come...
