When searching Walmart, how to eliminate searching on a previous car?

My guess as to why it is that car listed as the one atop the page and used for compatibility is that either you've marked that one as a default, if WM allows that as a setting, or, more likely, it was the last one you'd used. If there is no way on WM's site to browse without one of your saved...

    Cell phone OS

Canonical gave up on the Ubuntu Phone and the (official) variation of Ubuntu that was to power it. There are still some Linux-powered phones and mobile OS that are not specifically Android out there (see: PinePhone and UBports) but they are waaaaay out on the periphery and are extremely unlikely...

Southwest Airlines Saved From Global IT Outage Thanks To 32-Year-Old Microsoft System

Agreed: Even Debian, just a few months ago, issued a (security) kernel update that had present in it an ext4 bug. By the time I'd seen the notice to NOT install the update, my dutiful unattended-upgrades had installed it and rebooted, as per my config. Luckily, by that time another minor kernel...

Southwest Airlines Saved From Global IT Outage Thanks To 32-Year-Old Microsoft System

unattended-upgrades is a very popular package in Debian and is installed and activated by default in Ubuntu Server. It is configured out of the box to only grab security updates, which is where most people leave it. With that said, it is still a best practice and common sense to manually grab...

Just got a new laptop delivered and set up-thoughts?

There are lines that separate "stubborn", "silly" and then "downright destructive". Dude, I'd wager (and hope) your intentions are good and you are simply trying to keep this subject from being too complex for those who have neither the expertise nor the interest to concern themselves over...

Scam message from Godaddy offering an appraisal of my domain name?

It would be interesting to know the exact URL the email sends you to. (Re-)selling domain names is no small part of their business; to the point where their practices have driven a lot of customers away. I suppose there is a line demarcating "too-aggressive business practice" from "scam"; maybe...

IRS online form always says, Service is currently unavailable

I am in Canada and cannot really register or view any of this stuff very well but I Googled it and found a thread on Reddit. Is this along the same lines as your trouble? If so, you're far from alone and all of this might be chalked up to "bureaucratic ineptitude", which has no limits.

Will doing this cleanup delete my remembered usernames and passwords?

... And do what you can to ensure and confirm that the password manager's database file(s) can be backed up; or at least exported to some non-proprietary format, then encrypted and backed up manually.

“The mother of all breaches”-Malwarebytes Offering Free Identity Scan

A lot of people will just sync the database file across their devices using any file syncing service. I have Syncthing installed on my devices but others might use Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.

Free VPN apps turn Android phones into proxies

This is more applicable to usage as a proxy than proper VPN; but I have some small virtual machines in a Google data center near Omaha, and I am in Canada. I use one of those small VM's and Wireguard to effectively mask my location in Canada and give the impression that I am in fact in Council...

    Pet peeve!! MOBIL not MOBILE

You should know better than to use the American spelling. The next time you authour a post for our neighbours, humour me, do us a favour and please do not harbour intentions of that kind of behaviour. * Moubil

    Are they doomed?

My tenuous understanding is that: - bash, post 4.0 (this puts us in 2008? 2009? ---EDIT: '09---), is fully POSIX compliant; with the obvious caveat **as long as you write POSIX-compliant stuff**. And if you do, wouldn't most shells fit in this bucket? - POSIX's specifications, so say people...

Kansas City Chiefs.. back to back winners

My wife has been very patiently watching football with me for ~25 years. Her understanding of the game increases each year but her passion is largely at a casual level... But good heavens, when there is a live fumble and the players are trying to scoop it she will engage with the television...

How did you watch the Superbowl?

OTA on the Detroit CBS affiliate. That way we can also see the U.S. commercials instead of Canadian ones, and that keeps my two teenage daughters in the room with my wife and I. They even asked a few questions about the game during the evening.

    Microsoft Office Alternatives

LibreOffice was forked some years ago from OpenOffice - This is why they look and behave almost indistinguishably. LibreOffice, though, is enjoying much heavier development and ought to be slightly superior in every way; most importantly in this case MS Office compatibility.

    Android Cell Phone AntiVirus

I am really, really surprised that anyone uses A/V on their phones. It seems like a tremendous drain on the battery, among other things. Has anyone's phone A/V ever proved useful by catching or exposing anything of substance?!

“The mother of all breaches”-Malwarebytes Offering Free Identity Scan

There is very likely a difference between some given email address appearing in a list of accounts from a specific breach and some given email address "appearing on the dark web". The "dark web" is akin to "the seedy side of town" and has similarly vague identifiable boundaries (Making is...

“The mother of all breaches”-Malwarebytes Offering Free Identity Scan

For passwords I've used BitWarden for years for the same reason: With desktop applications and browser plugins it is too simple and easy to pass up. But I am really considering going with an offline alternative whose main database file I could (encrypt and) store/sync through a cloud service or...
