    Mad Dog Transition

First flight as a kid was on a Mad Dog when I was 6 years old. Still have the picture sitting in the FOs seat with his hat on. That's what sparked my love of aviation. Special place in my heart for them.

    What Is Your Default Oil?

Whatever is on sale an meets the specs I need. Generally stock up on one extra oil change per vehicle. I have zero brand loyalty.

Synthetic OPE 2 Stroke Oil--What Are You Using?

Saber. Have been for a while. Especially after seeing their new performance test against Echo Power-blend. I'm mixing in the 70-80:1 range.

Does Warren still make the Supertech Synthetic?

In Kansas ours are all still WPP, at least as of a few months ago. Haven't checked recently.

Rotella 15w-40 verse Amsoil 10w-40 for commercial

After years of 30w and 15W-40 HDEO consumption in my personal mower, it took only 10-15 hours for Amsoil ASE to clean up the rings and stop consuming. Prior to that it burned ~1oz per hour regardless of what I used. I can go an entire season now on ASE and not burn a drop. Literally. Hate the...

Blending 0W-20 & 5W-20 of the same oil?

Oil Recommendation - 2014 Civic SI

Best Synthetic Oil & Best BANG For Your "$"

Its becoming hard to beat Supertech at $17 for 5 quarts. Dexos certified so it's significantly better than GF-5/SN minimum specs. Otherwise QSUD is another great buy.

Oil Recommendation - 2014 Civic SI

0W-20 is all the K24 needs even if you are tracking it or daily driving it hard. If you aren't changing cams/valvesprings, stick with the 0W-20 changed at the Maintenance Minder intervals. The engine will outlast the rest of the car.

Blending 0W-20 & 5W-20 of the same oil?

I think I know the answer but started second guessing myself. One vehicle calls for 6q of 5W-20 (typically use M1 or VSP) and the other for 8q of 0W-20. I generally buy 2 jugs of 0W-20 for the one jug of 5W-20 for the other and use the left over 0W-20 to supplement the 5W-20. Ok to blend with...

New Yard machines 163 Briggs mower

I just bought a Toro Recycler with this Briggs EXi engine. Nice OHV design, quiet as a Honda, and easy to pull-start. I don't subscribe to the "no oil change" philosophy, but I know an overwhelming majority of homeowners already don't change their oil. All my neighbors are perfect examples of...

    2015 Jeep Wrangler 3.6L Pentastar

Anything 5W-20 that's MS-6395 until you're out of warranty if you aren't already. Lots of UOAs on Pentastars that look good on both xW-20/xW-30 weights in both syn and conventional flavor. I typically go 5k on conventional but that's because I also rotate my tires and grease all my adjustable...

What it's like to fly an airliner.

Early on in my ATC career before I knew my a@% from a hole in the ground, I attempted to jump a 757 over other enroute traffic while I had him sped up to .80+ for spacing to DFW. My instructor laughed at me, but the pilots gladly acknowledged and proceeded to do +2000FPM all the way to FL400 all...

Need oil recommendation for high rpm Honda

I ran M1 0w40 in my RSX Type S that was Hondata K-Pro tuned. Same 8600 fuel cut. Granted I still ran OEM cams and valvesprings, but it did great. Sold to a friend who is still driving to this day (about 150k current miles iirc)with very little consumption. Prior to that I ran M1 5w-30 and it...

    Opinions on weight

Is your 5W-30 stash Dexos certified too? If not, you've got two issues. Using the wrong oil weight, and also using non-Dexos certified oils. In the unlikely event that you have an powertrain issue, you can bet that's the first thing GM will look for. They LOVE to deny warranty claims over stuff...

    Disposing of used oil

I used to use Walmart or Autozone. 20 quart limit per day here. I recently discovered the small airport across from my house uses waste oil for heat in their hanger. They were more than happy to have my waste oil.
