How is the Purolator One oil filter?

Good Morning XSR, The Purolator One's performance specs (99% @26 micron, 15K life) line up with the Fram Tough Guard (99% @20 micron, 15K life). If you are concerned about the history that members are citing on the Purolator, the Tough Guard is an excellent alternative. They are $7.17 at WalMart...

    RockAuto oil filters

My question is a bit off topic. Help me understand what is the value of buying oil filters through RockAuto? For my vehicle, the lowest priced filter, a Champ PH2867 is priced at $1.63. If I order one shipping is $4.99 for a unit price of $6.62. If I order 3, shipping is $7.99 - unit price...

    Wrong filter previously installed

Good Morning Atlsrt45, For 1,200 miles I can't see there being a negative impact. Was the filter you took off the correct filter spec'd for your vehicle? I'm glad you were able to shop, select and install the filter of your choice. This is always satisfying! :) (y)

    Royal Purple Oil Filters

Good Morning Phishin, The Royal Purple and Fram Endurance oil filters are identical and are very good. The Fram Endurance sells at Walmart for $12.49 and the Royal Purple sells at O'Reilly's for $18.99. It would be prudent to check both the seller and the product if the RP filter is being...

    Fram tg10575 Ford Coyote

Good Morning Plawan, In my experience cutting open both the Extra Guard and Tough Guards, I found the stamp steel spring w/bypass valve fits very tightly into the center hole. It is an interference fit and takes force to pull it out. Combined with the spring force of the stamped steel spring, I...

STP 11665 XL cartridge 6,250 miles

A question for the community. In doing some reading on the Pentastar oil pump I learned it has two modes; a low pressure mode of of 29 psi and high pressure mode of 65 psi. Would hard frequent accelerating putting it into the 65 psi mode impact the media?

STP 11665 XL cartridge 6,250 miles

Hi GMBoy, Yours looks great too with about the same miles but a different brand of filter. What was the city/hwy miles on the filter? I'm wondering if that may have something to do with it. Thank you!

STP 11665 XL cartridge 6,250 miles

Good Morning MuzzleFlash40, Thank you for the excellent C&P. I have a Pentastar and am impressed with how the filter looks after 6,250 miles. Question ... how much city/highway driving did this filter encounter? Thanks again.

    Fram tg10575 Ford Coyote

Good Morning Advocate, Thank you for the C&P, very informative. You being in a cold region, combined with taking the oil to 4% and frequent revs to 7,500 rpm was an awesome test environment for an oil filter. I agree the filter looks very good with the conditions it operated under. I'm looking...

    Kohler Oil Filter Alternatives?

Hi Ripcord, I'd say extremely weird. He's probably a wealth of knowledge on small engines but sadly it gets diminished with the shtick. Wish he'd just be himself.

Aesthetically this is a well engineered filter produced with very good manufacturing execution. It would be great to know its performance rating and life.

Fram XG9972 and CH9972 oil filters contrasted

I have a theory for the different configurations. I'd appreciate feedback and thoughts. Fram standardizes on the performance of their models of filters and does a very good job declaring what that performance is to the end customer. But how they achieve it globally can vary based on the process...

Fram Tough Guard TG3614 Cut and Post

Hi KCJeep, A favor to ask. If you still have the media, could you take a try at separating the endcap from the media? I'm interested to know if the media tears way or if the media breaks away at the joint. I know this is unscientific but I'd like to get understanding of the bonding strength...

    CHAMP / LUBER-FINER PH2840 Spin-On Oil Filter?

Excellent recommendation Ryan. The SuperTechs (White Can) are ranked 4th in my database for performance for the dollar. They're a great value (using WalMarts brand name :)) at $3.84. ACDelcos are ranked 11th.

PRIME GUARD POF-241 NEW FILTER CUT OPEN

Hi Zee09, Unfortunately for me my version is $12.50. When their performance specs match a Tough Guard for $7.17 I'll begin to consider them. Also I want to see how the endcap adhesion works. But a tie will go to the USA made product. :)

PRIME GUARD POF-241 NEW FILTER CUT OPEN

I agree ZeeOSix. My preference is the fiber end caps because both the media and the endcap are porous materials that when glued make for a very strong joint connection. In some ways like gluing two pieces of wood together. The joint ends up stronger than the individual parts.

    Fram XG10060 - 6,000 miles

Wow, very un-WalMart to be stocking out of an item. Mine is behaving the same way on the SuperTechs. All the Fram filters are well stocked and restocked quickly.

PRIME GUARD POF-241 NEW FILTER CUT OPEN

Great eye ZeeOSix. It looks like they're waiting too long to change out the die. There is also small tears on the perimeter of the center threaded hole, perhaps the material is too thin? I'm having difficulty understanding how the media is glued to the endcaps.

    Supertech MP7317 - cut open - 8,000 miles

Hi Jeepman3071, That SuperTech looks perfect after 8k miles. It's strange my local WalMart appears to have stopped stocking them for over a month now. I'm wondering if they're phasing them out. Thank you for the C&P, the photos are excellent.
