Weird issue with new glasses? Can I return these?

My experience with the Optometrists at Walmart Optical Centers has been nothing but excellent. They admit if they made a mistake and do everything they can to correct it, and in my experience they do not charge for a prescription check as long as you have it performed shortly after receiving...

Weird issue with new glasses? Can I return these?

Long time eyeglass wearer here and I have had improperly made lenses dispensed to me several times over 50 plus years. Go see the optometrist/ophthalmologist who you initially saw and see if the lenses dispensed matches the prescription that was written for you regardless of where you got your...

Are John Deere branded lawn tractor batteries OK?

I've had excellent luck with the Walmart EverStart U1 batteries that sell for around $30. I've gotten around 4 - 5 years out of them with little effort on my part.

How many of you have made your " Final Arrangements " ?

While on the subject of prepaying one's final arrangements, be careful of the "inflation guard" insurance that might be offered. My late aunt prepaid for her final arrangements which in 1999 was approximately $8,000. She also purchased an "inflation guard" insurance policy so her heirs would...

Difference between budget friendly and Higher priced oil

I agree with the others - stick with what you have been doing since it is working. As far as one difference between "budget friendly" and "higher priced" oils, the difference is advertising. I know there are other differences, but as long as the oil meets the oil specification(s) for the...

    Soil Testing for my lawn

When I worked for an agrochemical company in the early 1990s, we had a 10/10/10 procedure for testing soil pH - 10 grams soil, 10 grams (or mL) of water, and stir for 10 minutes then stick either a pH probe into the mixture or a pH strip.

    Spam Calls on Home Phone

If I was sitting in front of my computer and the phone rang, I checked the caller-id and if a non-familiar number, I would hit the answer button on my all-in-one printer, scanner, fax machine answer and the caller was treated to the sound of the fax machine answering. Quite effective.

Unlucky, parasitic draw, or something else?

While you are at it examine the negative battery cable as well. There could be green grunge underneath the insulation near the connectors. Good Luck with the windshield!

Unlucky, parasitic draw, or something else?

Did you at least used the lowest AC voltage range when you measured the AC ripple? I would repeat the AC ripple test this time going across the battery terminals. You might want to remove the alternator and have AutoZone test it with their off car test instrument.

Unlucky, parasitic draw, or something else?

Have you tested the alternator for excessive AC ripple? Set your multimeter to AC Volts (or mV if you have that setting), and while the engine is running in the 2000 - 3000 rpm range and the high beam headlamps on, place the negative test lead on the negative battery terminal and the positive...

DIY fuel additive to help clean catalytic converter

@FDMaguire - man you are really making me put my thinking cap on today!:) Well naptha is not a single compound. Naptha is a mixture of various liquid hydrocarbons primarily composed of compounds containing between 5 and 9 carbon atoms per compound. It has also been described as a middle...

DIY fuel additive to help clean catalytic converter

Toluene has one methyl group attached to the base molecule whereas xylene has two methyl groups. The addition of the second methyl group makes it a more powerful solvent for cleaning carbon based deposits relative to toluene. It used to be (and may still be) that the most potent carburetor...

DIY fuel additive to help clean catalytic converter

Of all the chemicals you mentioned, toluene, naptha, and xylene, xylene would be the best for cleaning. However, as @SHOZ mentioned, little if any xylene will survive the combustion process and get to the catalytic converter to perform any actual cleaning. Additionally, any xylene that does...
