    A decent $5,000 car?

I’ve got a 2010 Ford Fusion SE 2.5 with 141k miles you could probably buy for $5k. It is supposed to be the wife’s commuter car but she constantly complains about it’s lack of heated/cooled leather seats and remote start.

    Quinn Tool Kit

My “at home” line wrenches are Quinn branded from Harbor Freight. I’ve been quite impressed with them so far. Better than I expected that’s for sure. Although I paid significantly more for them than I expected from HF. The price was right in line with buying a set from the parts store.

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

I’m going off of first hand experience as a dealership tech during that time and what I saw was a whole lot of problems BUT not very many lower end issues. Like everything they bolted to the rotating assembly was suspect as was much of the electrical but the base engine itself was a strength...

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

I got a Ford fuel tank selector switch for my 78 f250 from the local dealership. It was $60 cheaper than Napa. My brother in law also got a Motorcraft ignition switch for his 74 there. Sounds like your local dealers just refuse to search for stuff.

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

Who was blowing up 6.0 diesels? The bottom end of those things were rock solid. Usually they didn’t spend enough time running due to head gasket, egr cooler or injector issues for the lower end to ever have problems.

How many people prefer to use the dealer for services while under factory warranty?

Depends on who’s paying for it. If you bought a service package through the manufacturer then they will only pay for it for the miles/time interval on the contract. My local Ford dealership does 19.95 oil changes and as long as you’re paying for it you can get your oil changed every day.

What are you working on today?

Put two loaded rear struts on a Toyota Venza. Super easy job. Local Firestone quoted him $1200 parts and labor. Local independent quoted him 1000. I got two Gabriel ready mounts and installed them for $450. Replaced the power steering pump, power steering hoses and belts on my 78 F250. This one...

    Most Expensive Oil Change/Rotate?

So aircraft mechanics are making less than $35/hr? If you’re willing to sell your life to the flat rate pay system a dealer tech’s yearly salary looks great. Until you find out they’re constantly trying to beat the book, working late, working Saturday and working through lunch to get that 60...

    5/40 in Ford 7.3 gas?

Top engineers? Where? From working in a Ford dealership service department for about 20 years I can tell you that some of these guys’ engineering degrees weren’t worth the crayon they were written in.

Ford IDS - Can the dealer change factory tire size?

Not after 15 on F150s. I’d say the capability to do so on Superduty probably disappeared around the same time. I was told it was epa related. Before that IDS gave the option to choose between factory sizes. Going back even farther it gave the option to input rotations per mile for an almost...

Tire size choice for 8" wide rims (Ford Expedition)

Yeah that chart is off. As stated most Ford truck factory wheels have been 8.5 with a 275 width tire since around 04. Guys were running 315s on OBS F350s with the stock 7” Alcoa wheel. That probably is enough sidewall bulge to cause abnormal wear but there’s no way a 265 is too wide for a 7”...

    High Mileage accomplishment cheat?

Sit the front on jack stands. Leave it running and in gear over the weekend. Will probably run like 45(ish) at idle with no load. Should rack up the miles real fast. Gas mileage will be phenomenal as well!

Chest vs. Upright freezer - which to choose?

The only downside to an upright is the door coming open. We’ve had it happen 3 times. Once was too much stuff inside being stacked all wonky. When it fell it knocked the door open. Twice it wasn’t fully shut by a kid who was sent to get something out of it.
