What Happens When Oil Changes Are Ignored, Poor Care?

Running fine (without air quotes) is all I want from an engine - what's wrong with that?

What Happens When Oil Changes Are Ignored, Poor Care?

When you need special equipment just to measure "incredibly miniscule rates of wear" at all, it's pretty much a nothingburger as long as the engine runs fine.

    Old car stereo concept advice?

I got this for my 41 Chevy (where I wanted it to be invisible, and also using the original on/off/volume knob. Works just fine with my phone via bluethooth. There are a ton of different models. Some are quite simple (on/off/volume) like mine. Others have more controls like the one below, ans...

Electrolysis between a steel drain plug and aluminum oil pan?

I can't see no way for electrolysis or galvanic corrosion at an oil plug. Aluminum radiator and a steel block - yes, but not in oil.

OBD II Scanners And Used Cars

What OBD2 plugs are you guys using? I looked up several brands, and the specs seem to be pretty much the same (but the prices vary) - I guess they all have the same electronics. Is there anything I should look out for?

How did you start in your job?

I'm a cinematographer/DP. What pushed me, was the first Star Wars, and the making of I saw after that. I knew I wanted to be in this industry - which is not easy in Germany if you don't now the right folks. Well - I didn't know anybody. Also too poor to go to film school, so after my time in...

    The demise of AM radio

Since we get non of that here in Germany, I downloaded a ton of old Coast to Coast shows. Love to listen to them during long night trips on the autobahn. Frank

    OilExtreme additive

Doh! Of course - what do you think? If I would have my own experience with that stuff, I wouldn't have to ask. The funny thing is, that only folks who - like me - have also zero experience chime in. That's why I now asked some racers who are actually using this product since years (it's...

    OilExtreme additive

You admitted that you have zero experience with that product, I don't get your point.

    OilExtreme additive

Actually I find a used oil analysis more interesting, since it tells me what it actually does.

Can a fuel additive clean piston rings?

Not much of a story to it. It's a 2002 Explorer (V6 - ex police interceptor). I got it really cheap about 10 years ago with about 150,000 on it, and drove it for some years with regular oil changes and all. A few years later (with some beer and a bet involved) I started this experiment to see...

Can a fuel additive clean piston rings?

Okay - fair enough. And no, I actually meant 100,000 Frank

Can a fuel additive clean piston rings?

How does oil have anything to do with stuck piston rings? It's a combustion problem, not an oil problem. I drove 100000 miles without oil change and still don't have stuck rings, blowby or excessive oil consumption. Frank

Can a fuel additive clean piston rings?

The elephant in the room asks: Why are your rings stuck in the first place? I mean yeah, DMSO or that AC Delco cleaner are a quite messy process and no fun to handle, but they work to free the rings. But it's just a band aid, without addressing the root cause. Hard carbon deposits, that are a...

    OilExtreme additive

I don't know. The SwRI is trying to understand the reasons for LSPI and SPI since years, and their tests have shown engine oils maybe can be formulated to prevent LSPI - but that's all just band-aids without recognizing the elephant in the room . Basically that stupid downsizing was the...

    OilExtreme additive

"this dude" seriously? This "dude" is a leading tech author with more than 60 years of experience under his belt - cam companies hire this "dude" to run tests for them. But let me ask you - what is your experience with this product? Have you build a test engine and run dyno tests with it...

    OilExtreme additive

Well when one of the world wide most respected and famous living engine builders - David Vizard - is not only full of praise, but - after testing it - even invested in that company, I guess it is worth a second look.
