    Mobil 1 AFE 0W30, 3200 miles, 2016 Honda HR-V

About 1/3 of a quart was added and it was a week before the oil change. This was the first time I've ever seen the oil level low and had to add oil. In the past, it was always over the line because of fuel dilution. Bought a new PCV valve and hose in case the PCV might be the reason for the...

    Mobil 1 AFE 0W30, 3200 miles, 2016 Honda HR-V

I agree but the clearance price for m1 afe couldn't be beat ($3.68US/quart). Should have enough for 4 years @ 3200 miles / oil change. The car seems more quiet when starting in winter so I'm happy. Used to think 300v was best as it might give better protection for cold winter short trips and...

    Mobil 1 AFE 0W30, 3200 miles, 2016 Honda HR-V

Correct. Motul 300v was used for all past UOAs. Now will continue to use m1 afe as I stocked up when on clearance

    Mobil 1 AFE 0W30, 3200 miles, 2016 Honda HR-V

I've been doing short oil changes due to fuel dilution from short trips. In the last 6 months, I've been using 91 octane as the car seems more responsive. Looking at the analysis, there might be more benefits to using 91 octane. Only 4 of the fill ups were 10% ethanol, the rest were ethanol...

    Honda HCF-2 UOA, 80 days - 5824 miles on a replacement CVT

The vent plug was regularly cleaned and the fill plug was even replaced with a new one from the dealer after reading this post a few years ago. Was ok for 113k miles

    Honda HCF-2 UOA, 80 days - 5824 miles on a replacement CVT

Used to make sure the breather was clean so unless it got plugged with ice from the car wash or dirt from a road, I'm not sure how it happened. Hoping the vented fill plug from the Chinese marketplace will fare better.

    Honda HCF-2 UOA, 80 days - 5824 miles on a replacement CVT

That TSB mentions the warranty extension only applies if the CVT gets a software update, making the belt an OBD monitored part. I got it done about 4 months before the failure so was very, very lucky. When it failed, I backed out of my driveway and got stuck in some light snow. Turned...

It says on the manufacturers website that 360 has PEA https://www.goldeagle.com/product/sta-bil-360-protection/ Issue is I don't see it in the safety data sheet (2021): https://hhmfacilitymanagement.com/content/uploads/2021/04/SDS_GoldEagle_STA-BIL_EhFuelTreatStab.pdf

    Red Line 5W30, 2013 Toro 721 Snowblower

I think that was written since they didn't know what equipment it came from. When I compare the AI to other small engine UOA, the AI seems normal when considering a snowblower is used more often than a mower. I'm guessing double the hours. For example, DuckRyder's mower...

    Red Line 5W30, 2013 Toro 721 Snowblower

For the last 10 years, this engine has always gotten the good stuff as it only needs 0.6L / year. A neighbour suggested the oil be changed twice a season as the snowblower is used to plow multiple driveways in my laneway Decided to do an UOA for the first time to see how Red Line fared...

CVT UOA taken before Honda HR-V transmission failure

This isn't Honda's first rodeo. Dealer replaced it for free and I only had to pay for the rental.

CVT UOA taken before Honda HR-V transmission failure

I agree but the big question is what causes the fill plug to pop out? According to the Honda TSB, the cause of the fill plug popping out is because the breather plug is blocked. If CVT fluid has a high TAN, will it cause more fumes which will increase the chance of the breather plug becoming...

CVT UOA taken before Honda HR-V transmission failure

2016 Honda HR-V CVT failed @ 114k miles. The transmission fluid was replaced every ~10k miles When the transmission failed, the fill plug was missing. A sample was taken during a drain and fill, about a month or two before the failure. Thought it's interesting the TAN is more than x4 of the...

    Honda HCF-2 UOA, 80 days - 5824 miles on a replacement CVT

The part number (06200-52P-A02RM) would lead you to think it's remanufactured but I think it's brand new as when I look it up on eBay, they all have this tag with a checkmark on the middle option. It was out of stock when the dealer ordered it and took close to a month to come in. Maybe...

    Honda HCF-2 UOA, 80 days - 5824 miles on a replacement CVT

Lack of lubrication because the fill plug popped out. It is disappointing because the fluid was frequently changed and the CVT filters were even changed twice. Wrote about it here: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/honda-cvt-transmission.367290/post-6447077 I took a sample of the CVT...

Yokohama Avid Ascend GT or Continental True Contact Tour ?

Since it’s a North American exclusive, I’m guessing Nokian wanted something good to entice us after opening up the plant in Tennessee so they made an effort with this one. The aramid sidewall was exclusive to SUV tires before this. I often drive on dirt roads and this latest set lives up to the...
