Hagerty for collector(ish) car versus State Farm or Allstate?

I'd double check with your SF agent about a collector car policy... I've got one right now on my '79 DeVille. $10k stated value, 100k/300k limits and a $500 deductible. Costs me a little under $20/mo. It states on the declaration page "limited use/classic".

What are you working on today?

Replaced a sticky neutral safety switch on my FIL's '06 Ranger. It's been bad so long it eventually wore out the entire column shifter mechanism from being yanked up and down with force. I installed a good used column a couple weeks ago as it finally stopped going into park all together, but...

Best cell phone carrier for the money?

You picked a good time to sign up, with USM announcing the doubling of data across all plans effective 8/1. I've been on the Warp starter plan for a little over a year and couldn't be happier. With yesterday's announcement, it's also nice to know that I'm grandfathered into QCI 8 on...

    Reliable water pump brands?

OEM GM Water Pump $45 for a NOS pump... I'd still take that over a new aftermarket.

What are you working on today?

I prefer to call it an "airflow director" 🤣

What are you working on today?

The wife has been complaining that our dryer was leaving loads damp, so I took some time this morning to dig into it. At first I thought heating element or thermal cutout, but as it turns out it appears that the motor is tripping it's internal thermal switch. Everything else checks out ok, the...

    Castrol Rebate $10

Man, looks like all the WM's near me are out of the 5W40. The had lots of it last month... I've been a big fan since I started using it in my Regal GS. My current '95 Seville seems to love it as well, so hopefully it comes back in stock soon.

What are you working on today?

I got to take a little break from the usual mower servicing today: one of the sales guys took in a tired JD 2020 on trade and asked me to get it running as cheap as possible. Being the king of wholesale closeout buy's from Rock Auto, I felt more than up to the task. Lots of battery charging, a...

PSA: Use your CC extended warranty benefit!

In my case, it's a perk of my Chase Sapphire card (the Preferred, not the Reserve). I purchased an open-box Sony A95K a couple years back, which failed after 6 months and was warrantied Sony. Sony supplied a brand new A95L, as the A95K was no longer in production. Heck of a score, right? A new...

How long does it take to build a 2025 Ford Transit?

The newest models I worked on before leaving the field were '20-'21 models, but I didn't really notice any difference over the years. The Ecoboost models were obviously worse off than the NA models, but most of the issues I saw were universal regardless of powertrain: lots of electrical issues...

How long does it take to build a 2025 Ford Transit?

I guess I wouldn't have used the word "reliable", but if it stays trouble free then all the better! The many examples I serviced over the years never proved to be particularly reliable, that's all my comment was getting at.

Not planning on keeping it past manufacturer warranty?

    New to me ML320

Is that a 722.6 transmission? Lots of valve body issues with those.

What are you working on today?

I'm with you! We keep knocking around the idea of replacing our near-200k WJ, but every time we talk about it we realize how much we love it. It asks nothing of us other than oil top offs and a fair amount of 87 octane. As for projects: I knocked out rear pads and rotors on Mom's '09 Mazda 6...

Kohler SV590 engine from LTX tractor to replace SV530 engine on zero turn?

It'll work fine. Gravity feed is fine if the tank is mounted up on the firewall, but using your fuel pump will also work. Everything else should bolt up.

2011 Sentra - vacuum fill required?

I did a few with the Lisle funnel... good times. Jack the front end WAY up because the cap was in such a bad position, let it get warm/spill everywhere as the coolant expanded before the 'stat opened... rinse (literally) and repeat. Sometimes it was just easier to fill the funnel to the brim and...

GM 2.4L Ecotec LAF/LEA - Any known problems?

Skip them both. 2.4 is junk, 3.6 is junk, 6T40/6T50 (doesn't really matter, they're trash too).

    Brake Replacement 89 Land Cruiser

Tons of pad options on Rock Auto. There's not much reason to "upgrade", you've got 4 piston fixed calipers with 12" rotors.

Notchy 3rd Gear Engagement in 2024 Elantra N

I wouldn't hesitate to use HPL's stuff. It's excellent oil, and I'm sure they'll get back to you shortly with a recommendation. My previous vehicle was a 2012 Buick Regal GS with the infamous GM "F40" 6-speed transmission, a unit KNOWN for it's notchiness especially when cold. It always shifted...

What are you working on today?

Not my project, thankfully, but I figured I'd share some engine goodness. This is out of a JD 9410R. Something like $72k for a reman. engine plus labor 😮
