    Rare earth magnets

Yes, heat degrades them. When I felt the urge to throw a magnet at something, it was one of those ferrite doughnut magnets out of an old speaker, with the center pole piece removed. I stopped doing that years ago, but none ever fell off so they had to have kept at least enough magnetism to...

Dying Batteries - Dealer Cut a Wire To Fix - 2020 Armada

Yeah I don't like the trend of battery shenanigans where they just decide to downsize the battery tray/area so you can't fit a group 65 which is one of the best capacity: price ratios available. Some Fords like the Explorer 5th gen (maybe 6th too?) came with group 59 in less than the upper...

The oldest battery on the shelf.

They need to fire the guy that changes the stickers every 6 months. ;) (or maybe they did).

I need to drain the coolant on a 3800. How are these drill-powered pumps?

I have not tried *all* the drill powered pumps, but have tried a couple and they were terrible, because they needed a very high RPM drill to make enough suction even for short distances, even primed. That one linked on amazon reads "less than 2500 rpm will lower the performance" but from the...

    Window Tinting Over Defrost Lines??

Definitely try ammonia, with a lot of detergent in it, that should be more effective than just windex, but not from a spray bottle, so you're minimizing the amount of fumes floating around to breathe. More ammonia more effective but worse to breathe. It may need applied multiple times and a...

    Window Tinting Over Defrost Lines??

^ He's right. If the installer doesn't have the patience or willingness to clean it off without destroying the grid lines, time to look for another installer.

    O ring lubricant

What color are the o-rings? If black, then I'd use a tiny bit of dielectric (silicone) grease. If colored and you don't know the material, then straight antifreeze which would also work on the black.

Do Oil Filters Go Bad Sitting On The Shelf Too Long?

If it looks crusty, I'd toss it. If it doesn't, I'd use it. This could have a lot to do with whether your trunk leaked.

    Engine break in MPG

Slow down, and if you really care about fuel economy, don't drive a truck. I'm not anti-truck by any stretch, rather it's just the reality of the situation.

Just got a new laptop delivered and set up-thoughts?

Do you know that: 1) There are more open exploits on Win10 and 11 than Win 7 or 8? 2) No, a windows computer in the modern era isn't actually "on the internet", because this isn't the dial up era, instead there is a router between. If you don't understand how that impacts ports, then you...

Just got a new laptop delivered and set up-thoughts?

Yeah, this is off topic and not going to be settled here, so I'll just end my part in this by stating that it's not going to matter on your home network if you learn and use the same basic safe computing practices that you need on the latest MS patched OS too, with an exception in that you need...

Just got a new laptop delivered and set up-thoughts?

Completely vague, and as a result, wrong. It has nothing to do with the OS, is ALL about the user and apps. What do you want to bet that I can get a winxp box online, and have no worries? Hint: It's reality. I do.

Just got a new laptop delivered and set up-thoughts?

Let's not get started on that topic. It's not the OS, it's the user and apps. A seasoned user with mature apps, is worse off with each newer version of windows. The risk becomes the OS itself. Granted, if your app has internet access like the browser, once that app has support ending after a...

Just got a new laptop delivered and set up-thoughts?

Well the 3060 graphics probably added about ~$200+ to the laptop price and is arguably, mostly beneficial in 3D gaming. There are other benefits like GPU acceleration in certain pro apps, hardware accelerated NVENC/DEC for video editing and enhanced video playback, but gaming is mostly what it...

Just got a new laptop delivered and set up-thoughts?

Meh, I'm on a 10 year old PC right now and have zero reason to go use a different one, is plenty fast enough for *most* tasks. Granted, quad core CPU, 16GB memory, SSDs, 4K monitor. I'll get several more years out of it, just not gaming.

Just got a new laptop delivered and set up-thoughts?

Look through the installed programs, make sure there's no bloatware and/or useless OEM stuff that might be uninstalled. Hard to know what the state of it is, coming from a computer shop. It could have the OEM factory image or something a bit different. Either way I would consider making an OS...

Lubricating CV joint after boot change

It's fine, don't add more unless you're 100% sure it is the same type grease and even then, you don't need much in the boot.

Lubricating CV joint after boot change

You pack the joint, all it will hold, then the rest in the boot (do not pack it completely full, remember that it compresses) just takes up space so that there's less empty space for the grease in the joint to be flung out, without it staying in contact with the joint.

Lubricating CV joint after boot change

If dirt got in then it needs cleaned out, thoroughly. I like gasoline bath, cheap and readily available. I use the same old gas I clean other parts with, strain when it gets nasty (old t-shirt or whatever). If not dirty, wipe excess off, pack some in with your hands, put the rest in the boot...

oil grade change and burning oil?

Well.... Hyundais last 100K mi, so you have 12,075 miles to go! I'd probably change the oil at least one more time between now and then. ;) Did switching viscosity cause oil to burn? No, it slowed it down a little if anything. What probably happened is the new oil dissolved some sludge, but...
