Thermostat opinions - Lower Set point for Summer

Agreed. This same minivan had a real overheating problem before I installed a new standard duty (1 row) radiator about 18 months ago. One thing about this is that most of these older minivans don't have any indication of the coolant temp beyond the gauge needle which pretty much remains in the...

Lighted exterior concrete steps in new construction- have to give a thumbs down

Yeah, that's one of those ideas that'll soon be nothing but a headache and an eyesore.

    Is this piston leaking oil?

some of it is cut off but from what I can see I would say no. There would be a decided brown ridge on one side of the piston crown. That said, I do see what appears to be evidence of detonation aka knocking aka pinging. Not exactly sure what's going on on the left side? Something doesn't look...

A new type of security blanket for young people?

Unless, maybe.....you spend your evenings doing bad things you shouldn't and need to conceal yourself during the day?

A new type of security blanket for young people?

I see them when in broward county a LOT. It can be 100F outside and here comes some kid with hoodie pulled over his head. I guess ya can't suffer from brain damage unless you have one.

Home insurance rate changes since 2021.

First of all, the odds of your house burning down are about the same as wining the Powerball drawing. Take that ever increasing "Premium" you would kindly fork over every year and invest it wisely, every year. (Like the Insurance company will do with it) Pretty soon you'll have one heck of a...

Yep. That's the other side of the coin. Claim denials. Read the fine print. Didn't disclose EVERY gun you own? oops...claim denied.

I went back and re-read that post again. I still don't see the correlation? Could you explain? Maybe I'm just missing the obvious? The temp sensor either sends the actual temperature, or it does not? There is no try. I could use a laser thermometer to see how close it is?

Thermostat opinions - Lower Set point for Summer

Yes. Good idea. I'm going by what the ECU reports. The temp sensor is new. I made an assumption that the temp would be accurate. No other way I know of to get a precise coolant temp when hot without adding something. Laser thermometer should be close.

Thermostat opinions - Lower Set point for Summer

Fair enough. But improving on the design is a good thing, no? When I sit long enough, the temps will keep creeping up until it hits 230F when the fans kick on high. I found out today that the radiators fans do come on anytime the AC is on with the caveat that it only comes on with AC on when...

Thermostat opinions - Lower Set point for Summer

I only use about 15/85 antifreeze/water since it never gets cold here. Antifreeze probably helps a little but..... IIRC, isn't it the coolant system pressure that makes the most difference in coolant boiling point? That's why if you open the coolant cap with the coolant hot it will still erupt...

Thermostat opinions - Lower Set point for Summer

It probably wasn't mentioned because I think somewhere I mentioned the radiator is only a year old and has been drained, cleaned and flushed at least twice in the last 12 months? Maybe another post. My coolant is crystal clear clean. When I drain it into a bucket I could read the year off a...

Thermostat opinions - Lower Set point for Summer

It seems that there is a delay from the time that the vehicle is started, then after the AC is turned on there is up to a 1 minute delay until the fans come on. I would assume this is due to rise in pressure of the refrigerant after turning the AC on. According to the video posted, it could...

Thermostat opinions - Lower Set point for Summer

For many vehicles I would say this is true. But most people with these minivans report about the same as I posted. Thermostat temp is 195F As you can see by design, the fans don't come on until 224F (220F is a misprint, it shows 224F everywhere else in the FSM) Factory specs for radiator fan...

I own and maintain 3 of these. Just curious, how many do own and maintain? They're good proven engines, but subject to the same problems if abused.
