    Quaker State Ultimate Protection 5W-30

I don't claim to know the specifics. ;) I did find some interesting information about different combinations of friction modifiers providing different results in the various lubrication regimes in this Shell patent.

It's very possible that the QS is also using an organic friction modifier so there's that.

Completely agree with this. I'm surprised at 1) the number of people on BITOG that take BS results as gospel and 2) the number of people that believe that the amount of metallic additives in a uoa are the be all and end all to measure an oil's performance. From 2003...

    2021 Subaru Outback 2.5L / Amsoil Signature 0w-20 4.9k miles

The remote start doesn't help either but bravo for keeping it at 5 minutes or less in your climate. I see so many people complain about the 10 minute max using the app. Actually that might be twice consecutively for 10 minutes? Good uoa given the conditions though. Probably wouldn't be much...

    2018 WRX Pennzoil ultra platinum 5W30 - 3050 miles

Subaru of America went with an OCI of 6,000 miles for normal conditions and 3k miles for severe conditions (regardless of engine type) back around MY2011. Prior to that turbo's required/recommended the severe condition OCI but not since then.

Although it’s rare, I have seen cases where a dealer looked into problems based on fuel dilution in a uoa. One case was several years ago on the Forester forum in an FA20DIT. The owner had a fuel injector replaced because the dealer determined he had a leaky injector.

    2018 WRX Pennzoil ultra platinum 5W30 - 3050 miles

Typical Subaru DIT fuel dilution. It’s probably at its highest during the winter. As others have said definitely do not idle your car. Your engine temps are fairly normal IMO. You can use the flappy paddles to hold revs higher to warm the car up more quickly, but don’t expect any miracles...

    Fuel Dilution: 2022 Subaru Crosstrek FB20D 2,774mi OCI Schaeffer Supreme 9000 0W-20

It’s just the nature of DI. There was 2.0DIT WRX owner a few years back that did a 2k uoa and his fuel was no different than his 5k+ intervals.

    Fuel Dilution: 2022 Subaru Crosstrek FB20D 2,774mi OCI Schaeffer Supreme 9000 0W-20

Fuel dilution isn’t as bad as it is in the DIT’s. Longer drives do not always burn off fuel in a DI engine and it’s doubtful that fuel would be lower with a shorter OCI IMO.

5W-30 required for "optimum engine performance and protection". 5W-40 is also shown on the chart and the manual mentions that in higher temps higher viscosity is required to properly lubricate the engine. The older turbocharged EJ's thrive on thicker oil.

Sorry, but you cannot tell whether or not the engine sheared the oil with these results since fuel hasn’t actually been tested. See comment #14 from @SubieRubyRoo. Have a look at this one. He also thought the oil was shearing but it was fuel dilution. Post in thread '21 Subaru Ascent - M1 EP...

    21 Subaru Ascent - M1 EP 0w20

SoJ’s web site has been updated and I no longer see it either. It could’ve changed, but it was ACEA A3 going back to ~2015 when I first heard about it on the Forester forum. Someone there from Japan said it was the most popular oil to use in the last generation of the FXT.

    21 Subaru Ascent - M1 EP 0w20

Actually, since it’s ACEA A3 vs C3 like ESP, it is only closely related to ESP in HTHS viscosity. A3 oils usually have an old school add pack with higher ZDDP and calcium.

It’s actually a “20-23“ sticky in the Oil forum, but the JDM WRX manual is here. https://www.subaru.jp/afterservice/tnst/wrx/ And the 0W-30 recommendation is actually a thick Euro ACEA A3 oil. http://pleiades-zero.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/0W30_20220602.pdf...

I know who you’re referring to. He is only relaying what he was advised. Someone on the Outback forum was able to get SoA to state that 0W-30 was fine. They (SoA) didn’t at first but he persisted based on the ambiguous language in the manual about thicker oil being required for high temps. It’s...
