2021 WRX STi - Switched from OEM oil to Motul X-clean EFE 5w30 - 19,685 miles

For the 2.0DIT IAG actually recommends Motul X-Clean. They actually found issues with deposits in the early days of the 2.0 running high SAPS oils. But for the OP's EJ they recommend Motul X-cess. https://www.iagperformance.com/content/documents/Engine-After-Sale-Shipping-Doc.pdf I don't...

2021 WRX STi - Switched from OEM oil to Motul X-clean EFE 5w30 - 19,685 miles

The Subaru OEM oil is not terrible. It performs similarly to any other ILSAC GF6 oil in an STI.

2021 WRX STi - Switched from OEM oil to Motul X-clean EFE 5w30 - 19,685 miles

Around 10 years ago, Blackstone was flagging EJ25x uoa's with very slightly elevated silver. You can find some of the discussions by doing a google search. Most of the time, this is considered noise but it may or may not be...

2023 Subaru WRX - 7592kms on Penn Ultra Platinum 5W-30 SP (21578kms ODO)

The viscosity is pretty decent with that amount of fuel in a WRX IMO. I’m on the fence in regards to sticking with a GF6 5W-30 or maybe bumping up to a C3 5W-30 like you did.

    High HP Subaru Recommendations

What are the clearances like between the two engines? Can the EJ257 still use a 40 grade oil? Regardless, I probably would not use the regular Motul 8100 oils. Maybe 8100 Power or 300V if you want to stick with Motul or go with HPL as @#18FAN suggested. Check the HPL stickies at the top of this...

2021 WRX STi - Switched from OEM oil to Motul X-clean EFE 5w30 - 19,685 miles

Your owner’s manual states that thicker viscosity is required for higher temps. ;) I looked up the part for my Outback and it lists the STI. https://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru__/Engine-Oil-Cooler-Engine-Oil-Heat-Oil-Cooler-Complete/49231148/21311AA051.html

2021 WRX STi - Switched from OEM oil to Motul X-clean EFE 5w30 - 19,685 miles

Completely different engine, but here’s a uoa on an FA24DIT with a copper spike. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/2020-subaru-outback-2-4l-turbo-mobil-1-t-suv-5w-30-afe-0w-20-blend-3300-mile-oci-copper-increase-oai-vs-blackstone.380613/ I ran many different oils in my ‘04 FXT and my...

How often to change the oil in my WRX

The FA engine isn’t as fragile as the EJ was. Even after blowing a turbo on my tuned Forester (it was stock when it blew due to oil screen clogging), I stuck with Euro oils at 5k mile intervals. It did burn oil so replenishing it probably helped. You’re running two grades above the...

2024 crosstrek burning oil after 1k mi on oil change

After living with an EJ turbo that burned up to one qt every 5K miles (before switching to 10W-40), and 1 qt on 600 mile trips, I’ve been quite surprised that I’ve never added oil to my FA24DIT. That’s running 0W-20, 5W-20, or 5W-30 at 5k mile intervals. The fuel dilution keeps the oil level up...

    2020 Subaru 2.4l Turbo 18.4k mi; Mobil 1 T-SUV 5w-30/AFE 0w-20 blend, 3.3k mi

If the copper spike isn’t due to the particular driving conditions, I think it could be due to the break-in wear metals not yet normalizing. It wouldn’t be the first time that there has been an odd spike in a Subaru uoa during the first 18k miles regardless of how many oil changes there have been.

    Idemitsu Synthetic Oil

The low viscosity number can be explained by fuel dilution which is very likely higher than Blackstone’s estimate.

2020 Subaru STi 21k miles. Need help selecting 5w-30 oil (extended SoA 8 year 80k warranty)

Welcome to Subaru and CAFE! As you can probably see in your Saabaru, the owner's manuals were not quite as bad prior to a major rewrite around 2010. It was more specific in allowances for thicker grades like the Subaru Japan manuals still do today. The JDM FA24DIT, which specs 0W-20 as it does...

2020 Subaru STi 21k miles. Need help selecting 5w-30 oil (extended SoA 8 year 80k warranty)

No, not really. Just pick a brand you like and use the specs for comparison. ACEA C3 oils are reduced SAPS but there’s no reason to run a reduced SAPS oil in an STI IMO. I’d go with ACEA A3 (and associated MB, VW, BMW specs). Pennzoil, Castrol, Mobil 1, Motul, Amsoil, etc are all good choices.

2020 Subaru STi 21k miles. Need help selecting 5w-30 oil (extended SoA 8 year 80k warranty)

True, although this particular engine is from 2003. @gts24 The chart in your owner’s manual lists 5W-40. That’s what I would use. Your manual also states that higher viscosity oil is required in hot weather. I would not run any resource conserving oil and an EJ turbo.

    new tires daughter's car

If any of that local driving is during heavy rain or snow (even light snow), I would've gone with the Firestone Weathergrip. https://www.firestonetire.com/tire/weathergrip-weathergrip/175-65R15/ But I guess anything is better than old and bald tires.
