    Blackout Plates

General observation is that a high percentage of aggressive drivers tend to have the blackout MN plates. Call it an early warning so to speak... (Not scientific by any means, but work on the roads for any amount of time - driving or actually working on the road in maintenance, construction...

    Ford Everest

No thanks. Recently had a rental 4-runner and own a current gen Explorer. The 4-Runner reminded me of my past Explorer, circa 2007 model year. If I wanted a car from 20 years ago, sure. And I get the off road appeal. Reality is I don't need my Explorer to be an off-road machine. The ride...

20” wheels on an AWD car? Why?

Looks like 17 and 18 wheels are also offered on this vehicle, so putting a set of snows on a 17 or 18" wheel should work. That's what I did with my Explorer with 20's - I run a set of 18" wheels and winter tires.

    Sea water for fire fighting?

I don't think anyone has said the fire fighting aircraft have not been able to source enough water. The issue has been firefighters using the fire hydrant system and essentially draining the systems of water... In addition, there are times the firefighting aircraft simply cannot fly, due to...

    Sea water for fire fighting?

Saltwater is being used in some cases. The CL-415 water bombers are an example that can scoop ocean water and drop it. However, most water bomber aircraft are not set up to handle the corrosiveness of salt water. Many of the water supply issues are not issues caused by dry supply reservoirs...

USPS: "We can't" culture at its finest. How to restore mail service?

Amazon deliveries via their carrier are to my front door, not my mailbox. And if my driveway or walk aren't shoveled out, they can (and have) refused delivery. UPS and FedEx, same story.

USPS: "We can't" culture at its finest. How to restore mail service?

Without pictures, its not easy to guess what exactly the mail person is working around. Reality is that most places the homeowner/business is responsible for keeping the mailbox accessible and cleaning out the snow the plows deposit there... At least that's how its been since I was born here...

best oil for Ford 2.7L V6

If you are going to change every 3000, then literally any oil meeting the Ford spec will work. Zero need to change at 3000 miles. I've got a 2016 F150 with the 2.7. Nearing 130,000 miles. Used Motorcraft through the powertrain warranty, then switched to Castrol Magnatec. With that...

Illinois woman’s property tax is poised to pop from $756 to over $10,000

A lot of irony in the posts in here - taxation without representation claims, the legislature was passing laws to increase revenue, etc... The great thing is legislatures keep great records about what they voted on - and who voted for what. The bill that passed in 2007 was approved unanimously...

Illinois woman’s property tax is poised to pop from $756 to over $10,000

I'd look at it differently - how is it Illinois lawmakers fault that the local county authority did not apply the law correctly for 17 years - resulting in the "outrage" at the higher tax bill. Shouldn't the finger be pointed squarely at the local government in this case? Its been law since...

Illinois woman’s property tax is poised to pop from $756 to over $10,000

The real story here is how the County mis-assessed the property since the 2007 law went into affect. In reality, the landowner has been (apparently dramatically) underpaying property taxes since that time... Wonder what the penalties would be for me if I just underpaid my property taxes for 17...

    Daughters first vehicle, 2003 F-150 5.4

Zero issues with condensation in the valvetrain on multiple 2V modulars in a cold climate. Yes, the filler neck will show some milkshake in cold, cold weather (even with a long drive every now and then), but UOA's and practical experience showed that it was not a durability or reliability...

Finally! Morrison speed camera is destroyed/vandalized

Reality check here. Speed limits and the laws regulating them vary widely by state. Some require the speed studies referenced. Others do not. Colorado does not require speed studies in setting speed limits. Furthermore, Colorado law gives Cities and towns the authority to set their own...

Lets generate a list of bad engines to avoid.

First, there are 2.7's with no oil belt. Second, better add the 5.0 to the list as it has one too...

Rental review 2025 Ford Explorer XLT

Bitog is as predictable as it ever was. I'll just point out the actual drivers and owners of this gen Explorer who have chimed in on this thread all seem to have mostly positive things to say. Are they perfect? No. But it doesn't seem to match the hate from certain posters...

Rental review 2025 Ford Explorer XLT

Ecoboost #1 (2.7 in the 16 F150) 130,000 trouble free miles (one warranty item to replace a check valve in a turbo oil feed line that I probably never would have noticed except for the pandemic that parked the truck for long periods of time). Regular maintenance items like Plugs, etc...

Rental review 2025 Ford Explorer XLT

Chuckling at complaining about 25 mpg out of a three row, 6 or 7 passenger SUV... We have a 21 with the 2.3. Long term average with tons of short tripping and cold weather here is 22.7 mpg average. That compares to the 07 Explorer it replaced that got 14.5 mpg in the same duty... Zero issues...

FIRESTONE Winterforce 2 : Anyone have experience with these ?

That tire is made in Argentina, Costa Rica, Brazil, and Mexico per Tireracks info, depending on the size. In that category (Studdable Winter / Snow) the Firestone is rated below the Cooper Evolution Winter and General Altimax Arctic. I have the Generals and would happily buy again (mine were...

    Are winter tires "worth it"?

Worth it is dependent on the users circumstances... Location, vehicle, driving needs, etc... I have a Fusion Energi plug in Hybrid. It gets all weather tires (carrying the 3PMSF logo) for summer and shoulder seasons. A set of dedicated winter tires for the winter. Why? I live where it...

Do gas chainsaws make any sense for a homeowner?

I don't find battery saws stupid. I have both - a dewalt battery powered saw and a stihl MS250. For smaller projects, etc... I prefer the battery powered saw. For cutting trees down, and working all day - I'll take the gas saw all the time. For me, they fit different roles. And if you have...
