    Frustrating Dealer Experience

LOL. Most people don't care what he says. He is the resident Debbie downer about everything and has sarcastic comments for just about everyone.

    New tool thread

I have several sets of Autozone specialty wrenches that work fine. Harbor Freight has really come a long way too with a lot of their tools. You mention buying some axle nut sockets. I just bought a six-point set from HF that is very nice. I also have a 12-point Astro Pneumatic set off of...

    New tool thread

I have plenty of parts store tools as well as Harbor Freight and a lot of the brands off of Amazon. I also have some tool truck brand tools. I like anything that works.

    Scanner

I have a Thinktool Pros, Launch X431 Pro3 V+ 5.0 Elite, Otofix D1, Innova 5610, Innova 3140d, AutoXray 6000, Forscan, and Snap On MT2500. The first three are all pretty much full function scan tools with the others having various capabilities. I'm not sure what all Forscan will do as I don't...

    85w140 in Ford 8.8

I remember these lite duty 250's since I was in the market for a new truck in 1998. I ended up with my 98 Chevy K1500 which I still own. I really liked the Fords, but they were having the spitting out spark plug issue during that time, and they were more expensive to buy.

    Drain factory fill or wait

I didn't change the factory fill oil on my 2014 Mustang GT until about 4,600 miles and one year and it doesn't burn any oil. On my 98 Chevy K1500 truck, I changed the factory fill oil at about 1,900 miles and it has always used a little bit of oil. I personally wouldn't change it early and...

Brake Bleeding...Pressure VS Vacuum and Preferred DIY Kits?

Gravity bleed doesn't always work. I had two instances on two different GM vehicles that after I blew out a rear hard line on both, I could not get the rear bleeders to bleed either by using a vacuum bleeding system or gravity bleeding. This was before I had my pressure bleeder and the only...

Brake Bleeding...Pressure VS Vacuum and Preferred DIY Kits?

I have the Speedi-bleed and they only recommend about 15 psi and you can even go down to 10 psi and it will still work. They do not use worm style clamps on their hoses. My kit also uses EPDM hoses on both sides of the bottle.

    Speedi-Bleed Pressure Brake Bleeder

I used mine on a family member's vehicle recently and he was pretty impressed how fast it worked. It's definitely the best tool that I have used over the years to bleed or flush brake systems, and I have used several others over the years.

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

It doesn't appear so. I got lucky recently and found some Metrinch sockets and wrenches at a flea market. They even had all of the bit drivers which were pretty rusty. I soaked them in vinegar, and they cleaned up pretty well. It's nice to have extras because one of mine broke the retaining...

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

I did the same thing and my set is my most used set of sockets. I later bought the 76-piece set as a backup but hardly use it because my original 48-piece set keeps on working. I later bought the bit drivers that make up the 62-piece set and a new case that holds them all. My current case has...

Talk to me about oil catch cans and intake valve deposits

The other thing with catch cans is that they are not all built the same inside and some are more effective than others. I've had a catch can on my 2014 Mustang GT since it was new and actually did some testing on various models of cans putting two cans in series to each other and then switching...

Help: diagnostic procedure for failed rear wiper.

Do a voltage drop test with your multimeter on both the power and ground to the motor with the circuit loaded. This will let you know if you have full power to the motor and if your ground is good. It looks like a pretty simple circuit. The diagram shows a connector between the TIPM and...

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

I just turned 58 and still do most of my own maintenance and repairs but I usually feel it the next day, especially if I have to do something under a vehicle on my back on the ground. My lower back has been giving me problems for the past couple of years so that is where I really feel it the...

What are you working on today?

Changed the oil in my 98 Chevy K1500. Truck just turned over 146,000 miles. I have been using Phillips 66 oils in this truck for quite a few years so I have been using Motorcraft 5W-30 blend lately since I can get it at Walmart. Used the PF-52 AC-Delco filter.

Scan tool with free lifetime update

So far, I have not but I have not used every option either. No scan tool is perfect and I'm sure there are things that it can't or won't do but everything I have tried so far has worked.

    New tool thread

I picked up this Fluke 88V multimeter off of FB Marketplace yesterday. I've always wanted one and this one came with the accessory kit with case and looked like new. It also had the manual and other paperwork. This was a want buy more than anything because I have several other meters that...

Scan tool with free lifetime update

I've had a Thinktool Pros for almost four years now and it's made by Thinkcar. It's a full featured scanner that does quite a lot and the functions do work. This scanner was also about a $1,100 scanner. My Launch X431 is almost identical to it in features and function and cost about the same...

Stripped o2 sensor threads, 95 Miata

Years ago, I couldn't get out one of my pre-cats O2 sensors on my 98 Chevy K3500 truck. I took it to a local muffler shop and they got it out but stripped the threads. They just welded in a new bung which didn't cost very much. I would just let a muffler shop weld in a new bung.
