    5.7 Chevy Engine Questions

I believe the acceptable spec is 10 psi for every 1,000 rpms.

Insight needed, 2012 Ram 5.7L Hemi #8 misfire diagnostics

I can see one problem right now with your in-cylinder waveform. Your vacuum pocket on the expansion stroke and the intake stroke should be roughly the same. Yours is not. Your intake stroke vacuum is deeper than your expansion stroke. Was the in-cylinder waveform taken at cranking or idle...

What would you pay for this '97 GMC truck?

The GMT400 trucks are pretty popular around here and some are going for pretty good prices but for the truck you described, I doubt it would bring $6,000. I have two 98 4x4's and I have had so many people want to buy the 1-ton single cab, long bed truck. My 1/2-ton extended cab Z71 truck is a...

    Chevy cobalt battery drain

I'm saying that you have to put your multimeter in series with one of your battery cables to measure what your amp draw is. For example, you unhook your negative battery cable. You attach the red cable of your multimeter to the end of the cable that you just disconnected. You then hook the...

    Chevy cobalt battery drain

You have a parasitic draw. Have you used an ammeter inline to one of your battery cables to see how much draw you have and have you checked voltage across each fuse in the engine compartment and any fuses that may be inside the car? There is a specific procedure to use to find parasitic...

    AC Condenser Fin Cleaner

I just always hook it to a garden hose from an outside faucet so I'm not sure about the water pressure. I have used it successfully for years without damage to any radiator or condenser. It depends on your specific vehicle whether or not it fits in between the two. Sometimes you have to...

Fuel/Emissions Hose or Transmission Hose For Catch Can?

I would use emission hose or something rated to handle oil so that it doesn't soften the hose and cause it to collapse under vacuum.

Opinion wanted on this torque wrench

I used a click style torque wrench recently to torque the transmission pan bolts up on a 97 GMC truck. Worked great. I also have several beam type and a 3/8 and 1/2" Quinn digital torque wrenches from Harbor Freight. I also have the Harbor Freight Quinn 3/8 and 1/2" digital torque adapters...

What are you working on today?

Yesterday I replaced the Duralast Gold alternator on my 92 Cavalier. It had started making some noise last year but Autozone wouldn't replace it just for the noise. Last week coming home from a party, the battery light started coming on at about 65 mph but would go off below that. Charging...

    AC Condenser Fin Cleaner

I use the Radiator Genie water sprayer for my radiator and condenser. It works very well. I also use the air nozzle on them sometimes...

My oil level is going up??? Really need help

Well, only two things could really cause the increase in the oil level and that is coolant or fuel. Does your coolant level stay the same? Is this engine direct injected or a combination of both?

What are you working on today?

Recharged the AC in my 92 Cavalier. Last year when I went to use it, it had quit working from the year before and I didn't mess with it. This car is still R12 because I have a lot of it. I replaced the compressor, dryer, and the compressor manifold hoses in 2019. In 2021 the system was low...

Brake lines for a old truck?

I made all new rear lines that went from one rear wheel to the other rear wheel years ago for a 96 F-150. I bought the line and used a brake flaring tube and some connections and got it done. It wasn't the prettiest job, but it worked and never leaked.

Long Term Fuel Trim at 20% 04 Mazda 3 2.3L

Have you looked at fuel trims at higher rpms? Take it up to 3,500 rpms or so and look at your fuel trims. Typically, if they get better and close to normal, you have a vacuum leak. If not, it may be a MAF or low fuel pressure issue.

Thinking of getting a Milwaukee Packout toolbox or similar?

I have quite a few of the Milwaukee packout pieces. I have two, three drawer boxes on the packout roller base which I keep most of my diagnostic equipment in. I keep other smaller odds and ends in the packout organizer boxes. They are all well-made but expensive. I think ACE Hardware is...

    New tool thread

I have two of these that I used to use quite a bit when I was still using cans. I did have one fail on me because the Shrader valve bent and stuck open which cause me to lose the entire can of refrigerant. I used my back up pair to finish the job. I don't remember if I ever replaced the valve...

    Bleeding GMT400 brakes

I have owned my 98 K1500 since new and have done all of the brake jobs and brake fluid bleeds on it and I have never had to ABS bleed it and it still has a good brake pedal to this day. I blew a rear brake line on my 98 K3500 and never did an ABS bleed on it either and the brakes work great on it.

Air compressor size needed for coolant vacuum kit

I use this one and it's actually the one recommended in service information for our Ford vehicles and I've seen it listed for some other manufacturers. I do believe it says to use a compressor with at least 90 psi...
