No need to cut them open. Pour a small amount of oil down the center tube with a funnel.

Is Fram's Tough Guard now their best filter?

I was never that comfortable with Fram PH or TG for extended use due to lack of precision in construction. Recently there have been bad examples across all of Fram's products so that rules them all out for me but I think it makes PH and TG particularly bad choices. If you can find OG XG, then I...

Fram Drive FD6607 with light test

Nice post and nice result but we need to have date code to help interpret and country of manufacturer if it is on the can.

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

No they did not. So the best I could do is utilize the upstream particle count per gram of medium test data from Ascent's tabular data and apply it to the fact that BR added 1.1g x 4 to each filter.

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

Well we know it doesn't make sense so I didn't want to confuse matters further. Using the same methodology it comes out to 95.3% efficient for particles 21-38 microns.

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

I've done statistics as part of my degree and in my work after graduating in several capacities. This is not complicated but we have to extrapolate the data we have which is something that is done all the time to make judgements. Statistically speaking, if a single Amsoil filter tested as...

    So you're a statistics major?

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

If you take the BR particle counts as accurate, then you would have to say that all but the Amsoil were leaking because the particle counts translate into efficiency numbers that are SIGNIFICANTLY below the manufacturer claims and the Ascent testing. Equally, the efficiency numbers from the...

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

No it's actually factual what particle counts you should expect to see on a 99% at 20 micron efficient filter when 4.4g of medium test dust is added to fluid with no particles in it. Further interpretation of what seem like small numbers of particles is difficult unless you are familiar with...

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

Hopefully my last post: The Brand Ranks testing also tells us that Fram quality is really really bad. The Extra Guard filtered NOTHING. The Tough Guard is in the 50% range for particles 21-38 microns. The TG is like a Wix XP!

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

I agree with your logic. The only difference is that the rated efficiency means that all those 4 filters (Amsoil, FE, Royal Purple, XG (aka FU)), should have single digit particle counts in the 21-38 micron range. So even the FE is suspect as it's PC in BR testing equates to 97.3% across all...

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

I put all the available numbers through a spreadsheet and using what we know about Andrew's testing method and BR's testing method, have converted the particle count numbers into efficiency estimates for a more direct comparison. The results are as follows: Tester Filter Efficiency 21-38...

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

We are unlikely to get any test results so have to use judgement on the information and knowledge we have. On your part, maybe you should stock up while these filters are (for some unknown reason) on clearance.

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

Amsoil is the best hope of getting this fixed at Champ Labs manufacturing site(s). So maybe the FEs will be worth buying in several months time. But the XGs (aka FUs) are made at Fram's plant A.

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

Agree 100%. Whip City Wrencher first tested this 10 months ago. Millions of filters made since then. If they don't know, it is incompetence and you have to wonder what else is deteriorating. If they do know, then they are happy to sell substandard product with misrepresented performance claims.

They're matching the Walmart price. Walmart had it labeled as "Clearance" for a few days and then they removed that wording from the listing.

Take a look at the pics in the above post by @4WD from 11 days back. "Ratty" looking leaf spring but no light leak thanks to the seal. Note where the "0" is stamped. It looks similar to the one on @Fair enough 's XG2: Now look at the leaf spring from an OG XG2. Same "0" but better quality...

Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

Just another comment on this. For the FS2 there is a cut open one on this website manufactured what looks like Oct or Nov 2022 that is wire backed BUT the end cap design changed and there is no seal between the end cap and the leaf spring. For the XG2, I have found that a Jan 2023 manufactured...

Check out my magnets on my oil filter

Another thing that would be nice to have is the tabular efficiency data for all filters from the Ascent testing. I know that Andrew shared it with a couple of people here.
